Eternal Bots, My personal experience

I started play TOS since one week before the FTP release, since I enter the game the very first time I was saluted by a Bot Spammer and they basically never left, there are also farmimg bots at any location with a good mob respawn and quantity.

IMC have tried to stop them restricting the Market, the trades and the interaction between real players, wich is one of the most atractive feature on an MMO, where you can negotiate with other players and you are just free to use your in game currency as you wish, however in a lost war against the bots IMC just penalizes us as players, it doesn’t matter if you are casual player or hardcore asian farmer, negotiating between parties is always good in a grinding game, because you feel rewarded by spending hours of grinding, however we got doomed to use the market that by some extrange reason really hard to find for most of us gives us the currency two days latter after the fee or tribute, and you guys know the economy at this game changes on a daily basis.

Still the bots are there, you can report them as many times you want and the bots keep there for days even weeks, it doesn’t mater if you report them in game or take screenshots and post them here because they wont leave, they wont get banned until weeks, I saw a GM last week at Klaipeda at Tenet Church B1 where I was farming Battle Bracelet from a mob that spawns every three minutes and they are very few mobs to farm, then the GM moved to other area and just few bots where taken out, the other ones are still there, they where farming around the GM and he just ignored them.

Now we are getting all the penalizations, they have taken the wrong way to take care of them, IMC could implement something like PunkBuster or anyother way to detect third party programs that affect the game, however they are restricting us to play their game, this is a topic we have discussed before, but we have not received any oficial clear answer, since the beta of the game we are giving with bits of information, at first I though they were to hermetic with their information, but now we are trying to understand what the skills really do, how they work, the game has a lot of mechanics that we are discovering and it is good but all the restrictions we have are becoming really annoying.

Please if anyone can explain to us about the 2 days period to get your money, the non currency trades, and the way trading player to player its supposed to be on this game will be great.

I like the game I enjoy the farming even the lack of information from IMC but there are some methods ther are just not understanding, the bots are still breaking the market, the bots are still farming, spamming, getting every time more annoying to the players, this should not be a war between IMC and gold sellers, IMC is the owner of the game and they are supposed to be interested in their game players because we are the costumers we are giving them our money, but noone wants to go to the movies to be unable to choose the movie, to choose your snaks, because they know whats better for us.

This is not the first…and the last… you will see of us

In many ways they’re actively fighting bots. You have to look at this in the long term.
Now you may wonder how 2day waiting periods on the items you just sold, how reporting items that appear to be RMT in the market or even why bots are still there days if not weeks after reporting.

The answer is simple : No Players = No Bots.

Sometimes I do wish that IMC take an even more active stance in bot banning. Bots are getting more and more irritating, especially after the fiasco today where I can’t even block a spammer.

Everyday I look at the number of bots banned in Telsiai I was like “Really? Are there really so little of them?” or are the players not actively reporting bots?

The amount of these bots threads is just, wow. Let me make this clear and simple as I’ve said in the past.

You want Bots gone? Here is a few ways that bots will “poof” away like you assume there is some sort of I WIN button for IMC to just push to make it happem.

1: The game dies. Silver Sellers (I’d assume the majority of these bots you see)
are REAL LIFE people, making REAL LIFE money. If the game isn’t bringing in folks to spend money, they won’t be making any either and will move on.

2: Which sort of relates to 1. Silver Sellers, Bots ONLY go where the money is. Notice your server has lots of Bots and Spammers? Then perhaps instead of blaming IMC you look at your fellow player buying Millions of Silver from those Bots.

(I remember hearing someone talk about how much he hated Bots. 3 weeks later he then talked about how he just bought 5M from some silver site. This is quite common too. The funny thing is; they will use the excuse “Well, I had to because X reason thanks to Bots.”)

3: IMC changes the model of the game to either B2P or P2P. This won’t kill 100% of the silver sellers, but it will def cut back on them. This has negative effects as well to players who just play the game because it’s free. Either way you’ll see a huge drop in both bots and players

4: IMC creates a specific task force to deal with Bots and Spammers. But from my understanding IMC is a rather small company and cannot afford the man-power to do such, so they rely on other means, that are more so Automated.

I’m not white knighting IMC, there’s plenty of fault I can see but I am not one to lay blame just “because”. You want a Bot free F2P game? Go make one yourself. If you game is good, or popular good luck. This bot issue is the LEAST of any of the issues I can see. I’ve got 12 Characters all ranging from 100-230 and I have only be inconvenienced a handful of times because of bots. Yes they’re irritating. But here are things I find much more important than this common bot problem.

1: FPS drops, Netcoding
2: Terrible skill descriptions
3: Skills not working as they should

Notice I didn’t say class balance? Because there is no such thing in a game with this many combinations of classes. Tweaks sure. Fixing skills, okay.

On a side note; IMC has been doing a diligent job at banning bots. Reporting bots means nothing if your “Forget wtf they called it is low.” They ban in waves and weekly. Yet it seems most people on this forum assume if they flag someone a bot; said bot should be gone within hours. That… Is… Annoying.

Edit: Minor corrections

Im not blaming them however in their effort to take care of them they are just hurting the playera not them, I understand bots are a fact in almost every mmo but they are farming infront of a GM and he just go away he just dont ban them, so why restrictions the free tardes if they are still there? Nothing happens and it would be easier to track the silver buyers and ban them.

Definitely important issues that need to be addressed ASAP.

I’d pay a subscription if it meant this game’s quality would go up and it’d last longer. There was a bot problem in FFXIV but thanks to it being BSP AND P2P, when SE did ban waves people had quite a break from the bots.

It takes a hell of a lot more time and investigation out of a single incident to make sure you are banning a silver buyer and not a player who was unknowingly mixed up in it. (As it stands, the only way to transfer silver is through the market… huuuuuuuuge margin for error there). IMC would have to investigate and find the sellers who are transferring the silver preferably by buying silver themselves and seeing where it’s coming from, then they would have to make notes of these team names and watch the silver go back and forth (likely they transfer silver between their own accounts to try to stay ahead of a ban), then try to detect when a buyer has bought silver from them and ban the buyer.

It is a significant amount of time and production effort to even consider. Not even AAA companies bother with it and only ban a buyer if it’s super obvious like WarRock would have been gone from FFXIV or WoW right now.

Well customer satisfaction and good PR will help deter “vengeful” RMT buyers.

The game design can be blamed to a point. The value of silver in this game is quite high. Every time your character needs to use the bathroom it costs 1000 silver. There’s no reason for everything down to placing an item in your storage should cost silver (Yeah I know it’s only 20 silver per item but really lol).

Having a lot of silver allows you to stay ahead of other players and gives you a competitive advantage. That, combined with a F2P model, attract a large audience of people who love to buy their way to fame and success.

I’ve been inconvenienced too and not every player has the tolerance to put up with it. It’s added stress. They won’t even address the respawn time issues. One time I had to do 4 channel changes just to find a spot the bots hadn’t had a chance to clean out. I feel like I’m in heated competition with bots sometimes and it’s stressful to me (and a lot of other people, why else are we seeing these threads every day).

You can’t really use your example of how it doesn’t bother you and apply it to everyone else because, as you can see by the amount of bot-hate threads that are popping up, it is stressful to many many people.

People wanted a game with extra emphasis on “field maps”, they got it. A bot’s playground field maps are. Bots get way too much of an advantage in this game.
