Adding an option to equip 1-handed spears on cataphracts would give better synergy with other classes rather than relying on dragoon or hopite.
Also, according to the descriptions of some shields ingame, such as the calvary shield and the knight shield, those shields are meant to be used on mounts anyways. However, you cannot equip shields and use cataphract skills without hoplite or dragoon.
