Episode 12 rewards -- a new player's perspective

Yesterday I was leveling up a low level Fencer when I had a discussion with a new guild mate. She started to play a couple weeks ago and wanted some tips about on how to play a Fencer. Since I didn’t have much to say, I directed her to the “Resource for Fencer” subject on the forums.

Moments later she came back and asked how she could get all the critical rate necessary to play the build as mentioned in the guide. I told her it was easy as fencer, since you could get that on both random and fixed ichors and then use the buffs you get from the build. Then she asked: ichors? what’s that?

I explained how you get random stats on Savinose equipment you can reroll and optimize and then get special equipment you turn into ichors for more stats. She asked what would be the best equipment at her level to equip ichors and I said Savinose Dysnai since it’s the easiest to acquire at this point (episode 12, event…). Since she didn’t have the time to farm the event much, I just told her to use the episode 12 items. She shown me what she was using: the episode 11 equipment. And then she said something that baffled me:

"I’ve discarded the episode 12 equipment because it was worse than the episode 11 one…"

Thinking of it, the episode 11 equipment is +11 t10 while the episode 12 equipment is +8 t3. For a new player which didn’t have access to the event that was giving the scrolls to upgrade episode 12 equipment, the episode 11 one is indeed better…

Am I the only one to think this is totally absurd…

I don’t have any news about the episode 12-2 rewards, I’m not even sure it’s released in kToS. If the scrolls to upgrade 12-1 equipment are in there, IMC should release that asap. Otherwise there SHOULD be a way for new players to improve the episode 12 equipment so it’s AT LEAST better than the outdated Savinose 400.

There are events that offer the set upgrades. The Diev one was the first but not the last. the next event coming to iTOS should have the scrolls again.

Edit: I was right:

RIP the equipment. And no, the EP 11 savinose equipment isn’t better. In fact it’s still worse, even if it is T10 +11. That’s because the random stat values are worse and because Savinose Dysnai armor has +100% damage dealt and -50% damage received in fields,CM,DS and DCP.
Since new players cannot participate in higher raids with their normal EP 11 savinose, EP 12 gear covers all the content new players can actually do,even if it’s “only” +8 T3.
Fun fact: the +8 t3 savinose dysnai armor has 82% of the def of the +11 t10 savinose armor.
Not a bad trade-off to lose 18% defense in return for 50% damage reduction.

The only things that can be argued about being less useful without random stats are the weapons.

You essentially can’t farm silver with the base ep12 gear, because to auto match CM2, all your armor/weapons needs to be +10/t8, regardless if it is lvl400 or 440. (this really feels like an oversight)

So unless you do field CMs, the ep11 gear is objectively better than base ep12.

imc give out eq that can grow with you through time.
Player just discard them.

Unfortunately new players don’t suppose this because the upgrades were put into a timed event and they have no clue it would come back or not. And I would not be surprised if the upgrades were indeed in the episode 12-2 reward boxes. No clue why those are not released yet…

that’s how imc controlling our playing rate (or participate). You play our game, we give you the most update freebies (through timed event).

And while those events aren’t active, newbies can’t even do the automatch challenges with the equip provided for that level. Eh, seems like bad design all around to be honest. Those people won’t wait for an event, they’ll just quit.

They’ll probably quit once they hit the wall of ichoring and random stats rerolling. The events are surely not generous, you get 10 golden ichor extraction kits when every 430+ item has between 8 and 5 potential, meaning at least half of your equipment will be in need of of average 3-7 golden ichor kits per item; that is a total of at least 25 golden ichor kits (if you’re “lucky”), meaning you have to wait for at least 3 months since these larger events take about a month, just to get the ichors for your equipment done.

You can theoretically buy them, but not only are the prices high on the market, you also need to spend money on magnifiers/nucles/dusts in case you cannot get the stats you need from the monthly freebies.
My guess is that these grinding events will now be a recurring feature so new players get everything they need to at least be half-capable of participating in content.

I just looked at the event page. This indeed will fix the problem for new players. Now they will need to add this every now and then, but seeing that every event is now copypaste of the previous one, that shouldn’t be a problem…
