Elementalist: Cyro, Pyro or Wizard?

I decided to try out Elementalist, but im split on what i choose before him.

  • Cyro has the synergy with electrocute, and from what i understand icewall helps shielding from enemies while casting.

  • Pyro has the most pure destructive force of the three. But it looks like he will stop being usefull in lategame, since the damage will stop scaling.

  • Wizard both has surespell and quickcast, making them usefull even lategame, but he is weak damagewise.

Short version: Depending on pain threshhold, Wizard for lategame, Pyro for earlygame, Cyro inbetween with maxing electrocute damage.

I also wanted to inform myself on which skills to use, if you don’t mind.

Never go full wizard.
To be honest the -50% cast time is not worth the lack of skills from Cryo or Pyro.

Here is my honest answer,
I have a level 81 elementalist, so I have just dabbled into the class.

Crymancer:
Immense burst potential in electrocute alone.
To my knowledge, you must have gone Cryo2 in order to obtain the damage boost attribute however.
Great control of the battle field when paired with Elementalist Petrify.
More time to cast Meteor (C2) and Freezing Sphere (C2)

Pyromancer:
the best wizard class for Damage over time
Being a DoT focused class, Elementalist brings in more DoT skills in the form of Hail and Frost cloud (C3)
Pyro will never fall-off because INT adds damage onto the ability at a flat rate; this means 100 INT = 100 extra damage each tick (If my understanding of stats is correct).

Elementalist:
A nice utility of almost every element
Attributes allow for resistances and raw damage output
Recommend at least getting 1 point in Petrify, and maxing out Electrocute or or Meteor.
Because of Rain (C3), Both paths are easily doable.

Recommendations:
As much as Elementalist combos with Cryomancer, the requirement to go Cryo2 puts it at an odd spot. Limiting your damage potential with defensive abilities like Gust and Subzero Shield, As long as you’re going for pure burst, this is the way to go.
Personally I would prefer Pyro2 into Elementalist because of the overall AoE damage. Fireball + Flame Ground + Flame Pillar into Frost Cloud/Hail + Meteor/Electrocute already give you enough damage output and can be prolonged across a longer battle, as long as you have the SP for it.
Going Pyro2, your Flame Ground will always be available (Duration = CD) and your Fireballs will apply a Burn DoT as well.

Its up to you, but I prefer overall damage output rather than a huge burst

I’ve a few routes for elementalist:
Wiz c1>Cryo c1>linker c1>elementalist c3 = useful for partying, has quite a bit of cc and most of your damage comes from electrocute combos.
Wiz c1>pyro c1>pyro c2>elementalist c3 = pure/raw dps, pve monster
wiz c3>ele c3 =really good for pvp(good CC,damage,survivability)

I went with Wizard 3 myself, but it took a while until I felt like dealing high damage. And he is much harder to level because he uses more mana and deals less damage than the other two. Sadly Surespell is useless right now, because Reflect Shield does the same, with the exception, that you can still be interrupted by bleeding and poison. Also some of Wizard skill synergies are hidden. e.g. Earthquake does more damage on targets with Lethargy. Sleep is also nice for pvp.

Pyro has also synergies with the Elementalist 2 attribute Fire Property: Explosion.

In the end it’s up to you if you want to be strong early on or later in the game (but it will take you a while to get there).

You forgot that you also get +50% increased magic damage with the attribute. It’s definitely worth it.

Actually I didnt know cause I never went full Wizard.
Personally I still think it isnt worth it because it falls under a Burst category, which I think Cyro does better.

Just my opinion though

Skill lasts 8 seconds and has a cooldown of 13 seconds. So the uptime on that is not that bad. I am 125 now and did several dungeons and I’ve never seen anyone doing more damage than me.

Yup, Wiz 3 quick cast is the best skill of the game and a must for ele. I’m 102 now and i think its very hard to play ele without quick cast.

Thanks everyone for their replys, i think i will go Wizard C3, i have the pain threshhold to do so.

Hello everyone!

I’m starting now and i Have a few questions.

My build is: wizzard c3, elementalist c3, warlock c1

I was looking for a build and I notice that some of them have sleep 10 or 15, and others don’t, instead they put reflect shield or lethargy.

My goel is only PvE AoE, and solo, if it’s possible.

And sorry for my english ^^’

Can u help me?

People get high level sleep so it actually works on monsters. Also it helps you to clear big group of stronger monsters. You pull them together, sleep them and then you have all the time you need to cast your skills on them.

Lethargy is only useful if you use Earthquake, but Earthquake is a bad skill, so don’t. If you’re going a support route Lethargy is fine because of the Strike attack buff.
Reflect shield is not that good too. Just takes a buffslot from better buffs. I don’t use reflect shield and I’m not missing it at all. The reflect damage is irrelevant and for not getting interrupted you have Surespell.
