Dragoon builds, risks vs rewards?

I have been debating on which Dragoon build I want to go with, based on what I think the endgame would be. It will most likely follow the path of RO with guild pvp or casual pvp being the more important endgame content, which i will be fcousin on. (Small RO reference here, based of WoE and other casual PVP stuff after you are pretty much maxed out)

With that said, there will only be 2-3 Dragoon builds that will viable… the most popular one would be s3 c3 d1, which is also the build I have the most problem with. Seems like the only reason to go s3 would be for restrain, which has a small penalty but gives 40% stun chance. It’s definitely a power skill for pvp but you are risking 2 ranks into swordsman just for that. Didn’t read much into other builds but I am sure other classes have ways to mitigate stuns especially with a support in their group, or if they decide to nerf restrain then 2 ranks will be down the toilet.

Other than that, this seems like a solid choice for me since I really enjoyed playing a cata in cbt. Seems like cats got a nice buff with lesser CD and more hits at early skill levels. Though the nerf on rush is a bummer or else I think it’s a strong contender if you put it next to cyclone.

Next choice would be the h3, doppel path, which seems like a 100% Pve build… no need to go mu h into details on this one since it is the most straight forward.

Lastly here are my original thoughts on how I want to build my dragoon . I was planning p1 h1 c3 d1, with an additional hoplite rank when they released rank 8…

This seems like the best bang for the buck build for me with s1 p1 h2 c3 d1. Which is viable for both pvp and pve. But who knows how rank 8 will change the game and I am also gimping myself with only 1 rank of hoplite or only 2 ranks of cata if I go for this build in OBT.

any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

pain barrier duration increase is also really good.

But with that said i wouldn’t use that build myself.

Rank 8 is not a thinkg yet.

Also if your doing pvp 3 cata.

true, but investing 2 ranks for 2 utility skills sounds kinda risky, and yes I know rank 8 isn’t announced but doesn’t hurt to plan for the future

I wonder how much dragoon will bring onto the table being rank 1.

i will just go h2 c3 if it is not even that significant

Eh…all options work for different reasons based off what you prioritize.

DPS: Highlander 2 (likely best solo build)
Tank: Peltalista2 (likely best party build)
CC: Swordie3 (likely the best pvp build)

The real thing about Restrain (which I have totally underestimated), is that Cata3 - Drag 1 has many multihit skills. As for bloodletting being a hard counter to stun…couldnt that same argument be used to negate the point of Cryo1, Cryo2, or sleep? Yet cc pvp mages that focus on freeze and sleep are still popular for a reason. You won’t always be fighting bloodletting, and it won’t always be up every fight (maybe kill the cleric or bind them somehow).

Highlander 2 is getting nerfed in iToS, they are adding cd to skyliner which is the main reason people go hl 2.

I’m actually thinking about your same build. Restrain will probably be nerfed sooner than later and Swordman C3 will be crap.

yup, if restrain gets nerfed then the 2 swordsman rank will be useless, but what is the point of going 1 hoplite or 2 hoplite 2 cata?

cata 3 seems to be the more viable option here with 100% uptime on trot and having rush. unless rush is totally lack luster and negligible after the nerf.

if that’s the case then I will be content with h2 c2 d1. have to do more research on that

@scott

see the problem is I am investing 2 ranks for 1 skill, others swordsman skills doesn’t impact pvp much at all. I don’t think I will have the time to relevel another char (depending on how easy or hard the grinding is) so I have to take the safest route to start.

I don’t see much benefit for highlander anyone cause of the skyliner nerf, hoplite would bring more to the table imo.

as for doppel, cyclone is amazing on paper and pve but I can think of so many ways to counter it especially when it is slower than regular movent speed. at least rush has the support of trot.

And if you go for cata, you can’t cyclone and cata is the base for swordman’s PVP

Hmm they have been pretty heavy with the nerf hammer. Tho if anything it’ll be bloodletting that gets nerfed and not restrain so I wouldn’t let possible unforeseen nerfs deter your build because you’ll be gridlocked into not playing.

The thing is, for both pelt1/2 and sword 2/3 you are going for them for pretty much only for one skill. So if you want around this one skill wonder problem then the only solution is highlander.

Cross guard can double your peirce dmg, crown is shock status, Carter will help you level until your cata, wagon is another short cc, you also get access to bleeding from crosscut, and the sky liner nerf isn’t so bad as you get 3 charges of a skill that hits twice with only a 15 sec cd.
