Dragoon Build Advice For A New Player [PVE/PVP]

Hi Everyone,

As I mentioned in the title I’m a new player that missed the cbts. So, despite reading a majority of the topics in the swordsman forum I don’t have actual hands on experience to help me with builds.

The main question I have is can I create a build that works for both PVE and PVP without crippling myself in either playstyle?

I want to make a 2h spear dragoon build (non cata) and have it narrowed down to two possible class progressions. However these two builds seem like I would be sacrificing heavily in either PVP or PVE,

The first one focused more on PVP: Swordsman C3 (max restrain) > Hop C2 > Doppel > Dragoon. The issue here is I feel that I would lack damage in pve early on which might make it tough to level. I will have friends that I can party with to help out.

The second one is PVE: Swordsman > Pel > Hop C3 > Doppel > Dragoon. Moving into Pel and Hop earlier will help with my survival and damage early on. I’m not sure what I could expect here in PVP, but abandoning restrain seems like a huge hit to my usefulness in PVP.

Is there some middle ground build or would I just be hurting myself in the long run?

On the PVP build, once I struggle past swordsman and get into the hoplite ranks will PVE improve?

Long term, do the benefits of the PVP build outweigh the small boost the PVE build has early on when rank 8 and onward comes out?

The Typical Dragoon PVP builds are all over these forums, you can find them via the search function.

PVE is not hard in ToS literally anything can work for it.

Yeah, I’ve seen the builds around and feel strongly about how I would build both my PVE and PVP builds. I’m a little more interested in the PVP build so if as you mentioned it shouldn’t be too hard in PVE that is the clarification I was looking for. Thanks.
