DPS-focused 2H Doppelsoldner with off-tank possibilities (need halp)

So, while everyone else is doing their flashy spear twirling, ninja magic, dual-wielding junk, I need a bit of constructive criticism on a 2H Dopplesoldner capable of aggroing groups of mobs or being a sort of flimsy off-tank when in a pinch. This is for PvE

Peltasta’s tree is pretty self-explanatory.

Most of the internal debate for me comes off of spending points in Catar Stroke. I remember it falling off SUPER hard late game and not sure if Wagon Wheel is a pretty decent skill later down the line. Would it be better to drop one of those skills at C1 Highlander and re-purpose the points for Cross Guard level 5?

As for Doppelsoldner; Deeds stays at 5 so I don’t get ripped in half by being sneezed on. Cyclone is a must. Double Pay Earn is pretty optional. Now, the new skills; Zornhau, Zucken, and Redel are where the business happens. Zornhau and Zucken obviously have synergy for huge damage output, but Redel seems like…a thing. Straight up Conan the Barbarian sword flipping that is as entertaining as it is dumb looking.

Stat wise, I’m kind of at a wall. 'Was thinking 1 str: 4 dex. That’s about all I’m willing to type with a headache at the moment. Any insight from y’all on this build is welcome.

I think I might give a few pointers or at least we can engage in some brain storming.

I’m going Doppel C2 myself as well, I simply adore 2H swords and that’s my main reason. My build is going to be Pelt or High > Barb C3 > Doppel C2, OR it’s going to be yours.

So what I’m about to say is coming from input from others who run with your build as I have no deep experience with Highlander.

Sword 1:

I’d take 1 level in thrust. We have no pierce attacks at all, this helps versus some tanky monsters while leveling since bonus damage. It’s a second off of your Pain Barrier.

Pelt 1:

Umbo Blow is great, Swash obvious and Guardian too, just to help you level early. U probably will only use this while leveling, not important.

High 3:

Cartar, only get level 3. Don’t need more. This ability was nerfed from it’s OP state. 3 is enough.

Crown, at least 1 level. Shock apparently works wonders vs casting monsters, acting as a silence. It also works with your later doppel levels.

Cross Guard, its literally for convenience. Unlike normal shield guarding, cross guard gives bonus defence so it works with doppels deeds later on since deeds reduces defence from ur stats, not buffs.

Now the important stuff.

Crosscut, use this with Skyliner obviously. Bleed scales with STR but not that well.

Skyliner. It might get a cooldown in the future but I heard it will have 3 Overcharges.

Skullswing, apparently reduces a massive amount of defense from monsters. Get it. The base damage seems low, and if you pick it just for the effect for 1 point.

Moulinet, fancy and sexy looking ability. Multiple hits so it scales quite well.

Vertical slash, just another hit to the arsenal.

Honestly though I have no real experience of High 3 since I went Barb 3 in iCBT but their skills all seem solid.

Doppel 2:

Cyclone at 10, no brainer.

Zornhau scales well with levels, no harm at maxing it. Low ish cooldown, applies shock. It’s good.

Zucken, ok this skill is weird. The level one is 8 SP cost and level 5 is 180. This is not a bug. I would leave this at 1 because the flat damage increase is just 100 per skill level and not worth it at 5 since 180 SP for a Sword is too expensive.

Redel, another lovely hitter.

Deeds, personally I’d go as high as 9. This way it would be on at all times (buff duration longer than cooldown) but 90% speed and only having 10% of your defense seems like a death wish. Honestly though if this skill didn’t require GETTING HIT everyone would max it.

Double pay, it’s fun. Get it man. Apparently hilariously bugged where if you activate and your party kills a boss everyone gets 2x exp even if you don’t do the final hit.

Punish, this is a nice extra hit to do if you down something. It flashes on the screen when you walk near someone who is knocked down too. Not needed, but another nice skill.

Mordschlag, ok I would only go 1 point. This skill is a guaranteed critical hit on CLOTH type monsters and you as 2H gain bonus vs cloth. It kicks mobs way back so use it as a finisher. Worth the 1 point since going all the way to 10 just gives more flat damage. OVERCHARGES too.

I’m more familiar with Highlander, so it how it will actually go:

Starting from the beginning.

Swordsman

  • Level 3 Bash for Knockdown
  • Max both Gung Ho and Concentrate - your main buffs until late levels
  • 2 points in Pain Barrier help against CC

Highlander

  • 3 points in Cartar again, for Knockback and Collision damage
  • 4 points in Crown. It will later synergize with Zornhau, providing you at least 2 rounds of constant Shock duration on magic enemies and lowering their stats.
  • 5 points in Cross Guard. It will give you another way to effectively defend yourself, besides Shield Block
  • Max Skull Swing. It reduces Defence of any enemy to zero. And it’s duration scales with level. Besides, it’s another Knockback, which neutralizes jumping
  • Max Skyliner. Despite it being nerfed, it’s still immensely useful, since it will have three Overcharges now, effectively hitting 6 times in a row. And double damage on Bleeding enemies
  • Cross Cut at 8, because we basically dump remaining points in it. It can be only taken for it’s Bleed effect, which works with Skyliner, but more damage is always nice.
  • Finally, we have Moulinet. It gives you 50% more chance to crit and a multihit, which means it will scale better

Peltasta

  • 1 point in Guardian for 18% Evasion attribute, you don’t need more
  • Max Swashbuckling, since this is the best aggro skill in the game
  • Umbo Blow will give you the starting damage, besides being another good source of Knockback and Stun
  • Rest goes into Rim Blow

Doppel

  • Deeds of Valor at 5. I don’t recommend getting more until Circle 3. It eats away your Defence too much and you will almost never be able to stack these hits. Besides that, it’s the best buff on the entire Swordsman tree
  • 2 points in DPE, you don’t need more. 2 is exactly more or less needed for solo playing, just activate it before mob dies, 2 hits should be enough. And, there is a bug. If you activate it and don’t do the attacking, your team can kill mobs and still get all the rewards from the skill for the entire duration.
  • Max Cyclone. Best AoE on the entire tree. It also protects you from CC, besides having huge damage
  • Redel is a great multihit skill. Multihits always scale better
  • Zornhau works together with Crown as it was mentioned, and is an incredibly high burst damage skill, which also works with Zucken to annihilate those Shocked enemies
  • Zucken eats SP too much, so no need to max it for now. Still, it’s another great mutihit skill, which provides up to 50% additional damage on Shocked enemies

And that’s the gist of it, basically.

Build:

Hmmm. I see , I see. Thanks for all the feedback. What’s bothering me is the SP cost increases for Zucken. Is there any chance that may be reduced in the future.

I’m far from reaching Doppel on ktos, but I can tell you that as of now, the auto weapon switch doesn’t work with pelt1 skills. If you’re using 2h swords you’ll have to manually switch to sword+shield and then manually come back to you 2h sword if the Doppel c2 skills don’t work with auto weapon switch as well (Cross Guard doesn’t). The best thing you’d get off Pelt in this build would be Guardian, and it doesn’t work with Gung Ho.

I’ll probably do something like Highlander3-x-Doppelc2, but I’m still unsure about what are some good options there. Also, does anyone know how much more damage Zucken does on Shocked targets, is it really +50%? I’ve yet to see a doppel c2 video after that change.

I know about the bug with Cross Guard. It doesn’t matter as long as manual switching works fine.

Gung Ho is used for mobs, Guardian for bosses, it’s an easy strategy. And what about manual Block and Umbo Blow with CC? You can’t forget them.

It’s really 50%, it was already tested on KToS.

Im really interested in this build aswell. Could you help for the stats, what would suit this build the most? 3STR : 1DEX ?? or more Dex?
I couldnt play any Beta, so it would great if you could clear it up for me^^

Why people talk that Highlander is better than Barbarian in end-game?

I guess because armor break always scales with the mobs, because bleed will scale up with your strength (physical damage?) and because vertical slash is scaling with the amount of debuffs ( yes?). At the same time another shock dealing ability allows you to better deal with mage mobs.

Highlander isn’t so much a damage dealer as it is a MacGyver kind of a class. It’s supposed to deal with every situation. And when it comes to barbarian? Well, I will be making a barbarian but you have to realize that the bonus damage from warcry and frenzy (+1000) even though it is awesome, it will eventually end. You will need to find more and more ways to take advantage of it. Doppel c1, Doppel c2, eventually doppel c3. That takes you to rank 8, what next? Barbarians don’t Have to be worse, but because we do not know of what comes After rank 7, we can only take the current facts into account. And what currently is true, is that utilities from Highlander will be awesome no matter when, and will not stop being useful.

I’d say, if you want to make a barbarian, make a barbarian. Just make sure you base it around multihits, because barbarians bonus is for the most part designed for multihit skills. Current meta doesn’t matter much, with the ranks that are yet to come they will definitely shake the current meta into nothingness eventually, so don’t bother with overthinking it.

I’m also interested in tge the stats distribution for this kind of build. Maybe something a bit balanced.

During iCBT2 people had to theorycraft. They checked all numbers. Barbs came top. People rolled barbs. iCBT2 ended. Some people migrated to kToS. They accidently made one Highlander skill so good every Sword build had to have it. It became a must. Americans who migrated copied the Koreans. They now vouch for it.

Suddenly they change Skyliner back to what it was, realizing the mistake as it forced every build to have C2 Highlander, which is bad internal class balance. Migrators are devastated. Their copy paste builds relied on it. They convince it’s still good. Tell iCBT2 who are returning that their old build is now garbage.

Despite Highlander not changing much at all ether except Cartar was “normalized” / nerfed. Mobs after level 210 get so tough that some builds just fall off. Mobs go from hitting you for 300 damage to 1500 in just a few map changes. iCBT2 people weren’t wrong about their builds, but now can’t voice their theories without being countered that “you didn’t go to Korean and level 230+”.

People who just copied Korean builds didn’t even bother to test the viability of certain older builds from iCBT2, or make their own. Relied heavily on videos uploaded by Koreans that are 10 second long clips which don’t show stats, weapons, armour, hat buffs etc. or even builds. As long as the video shows someone hitting big numbers, it’s the best. No consideration about monster armour weaknesses etc.

Tho every archer, cleric and wizard video I’ve seen makes me believe the life of a Sword is going to be 10x times harder than theirs. Especially if your sword is a shield.

That’s just me though. Don’t take anything what I said seriously and with a grain of salt.

As you may know, I prefer Cross Cut lvl 10 instead of Cross Guard lvl 5. So, I’ll have CG at lvl 3. Do you think it will be a “great loss”?

Well, you still have Peltasta for manual Block, so you will be fine, I think.

But why Cross at 10? Bleed may scale with STR, but it’s duration actually doesn’t, right?

I’ll not be Peltasta. I choose Corsair for Rank 5.

Only for the base damage and CG is too situational. I think CG lvl 3 is enough, just because the attribute and the block rate (total) is to high even at lvl 1.
