Don't forget that tos

took almost 8 years to make lmfao

The point of this thread is…?

He’s trying to say that the game took 8 years to make so it should be flawless by now (because 8 years is a really long period in game industry) but he has no clue whatsoever on the amount of implementation effort needed to make a big mmorpg like ToS (esp. for a small team of development).

And you as a developer do?

Actually, as a game developer I do.

But I’m not trying to defend IMC developers here, I think they’ve taken a lot of bad decisions along the way and paid their prices.

Programming correctly or not, making a mmorpg is a task best suited for big companies and I’m still going to admire any small group of developers who have the patience and dedication to work 8 years on a same project even if the outcome isn’t as good as expected.

Threads like these are disrespectful to any professional. It’s like laughing at an athelete who trained their whole life just because they finished at last.

I think this is a matter of preference more than anything else. All the other points are valid criticisms, though.

The game has been in the exact same state as Diablo 3, as in where it has not been in the hands of the same developers and not in the same hand of development over the 8 years, it’s been dropped and picked up many times and the team who worked on it were not small in the slightest, although I have no idea what you mean by a big team.

If it’s compared to literally any other korean MMO, then the team size is average or beyond.
EDIT: Where on earth are you guys getting 8 years from?

I GOT SHOT in seconds …

They still managed to get it somewhat working and published, where over 90% of game projects don’t even get to see the light outside the sketchboard.

Even tho I get very frustrated with a lot of their decisions, I still play the game and enjoy it. If I’m having fun, then the game is still fulfilling it’s objectives to me as a consumer.

Believe me or not, having fun is what defines a finished game. Goat Simulator is a game that is happy at delivering bugs to their clients, but if people are enjoying it, then it’s considered finished.

Dropping and picking back up or changing dev team is part of the development of any business. I don’t see how that changes anything. 8 years is just an arbitrary value but it’s obvious that they don’t have 8 years of programming time. In short, you can just think of it as “a long time”.

Yes but that doesn’t necessarily make the comparison fair. Like I said, I’m not defending them, but I do admire them. Doesn’t matter if another same sized group can achieve the same results in half that time. I’m still going to admire IMC for their dedication into getting the game finished. Bigger companies (yes, Blizzard) have it easier because they can afford to be replacing anyone who gives up along the way.
