Does anyone else feel like the world feels small?

I’ll qualify this with the caveat that my highest level is only 132, so maybe it expands in the higher levels. But as of now, the world feels kind of small. In the sense that you follow linear maps and questlines and the three major cities are more or less one in the same. There are slight differences between them but somehow they all feel like just one extension of the others.

This could be nostalgia speaking, but when I think of Ragnarok for example, that world felt huge. And I think it’s because it was separated into unique zones and towns. Classes all started somewhere else and each town had a unique theme too and then you had Prontera as a central hub.

It just feel like a shame because I love the art style and map design of this game, I just wish we had better map layouts and more cohesive maps to actually make it feel like a world you’re exploring and less like maps you go through to level up.

I’ll say this now. You’ve opened up a can of worms and RO vet haters are gonna be here like sharks. Good luck dealing with them.

Yeah cuz I keep remaking my characters cuz I screwed up. It’s quite nice seeing up to level 80 worth of the world 13 times and now I decided to just switch servers so I’m doing it all over again!!

Ugh, this seems just like a friend of mine. He is on the 3rd or 4th Rogue because “There’s something bad about my another Rogue”

I laugh when remembering when I found Crystal Mine Lot 2.
Ooooooh, what tha f? A hidden portal? Lets kill things
And got raped by a mad Vubbe

The world size its nice. But the level of the map should be shown just when you reach it

RO felt huge, until it didn’t.

There was certainly a point where the maps were no longer dangerous and you were just a hundred flywings from anywhere in the world.

The truth of it is that every world is small when fast travel/teleportation is available.

Yup RO is big :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Yea I guess that is true. Perhaps it’s more so variety than size? Again, it could be nostalgia talking, but somehow the areas and towns of RO felt more cohesive with the surrounding area. You felt like you were in the desert, or the mountains, or on the coast.

In ToS, all three towns feel the same and the areas are just variations on a theme. Again, I love the art style, just not the execution.

The ToS World is huge, but it indeed feels a bit linear in progression.

Yet, I found there is always a choice where to go. Two main paths. Many many optional maps not on these paths. You can always go back and hunt monsters for collections. You can do any of the dungeons for drops. Or just do the one on your level for XP. So for me there always seems to be at least 5 things I can choose from.

I think you mean linear moreso than small. The world map is certainly large, but the fact is you basically have no reason to ever visit more than a few maps at any one time - whatever town is convenient for you, whatever maps are in your level range either for quests or grind, and maybe a few maps containing world bosses or dungeons. And I suppose your class master, too.

There’s almost never a point where you’d consider going back and farming some lower level map. Even monster gems are really not worth it except for a few specific skills. Vubbe Fighter Blood is one of the few exceptions and it’s also really dull to farm because of the terrible spawn mechanics and necessity to channel hop forever.

The world feels very small, because of how disjointed it is. Each map is its own area, entirely seperated from the rest.[quote=“lgabovich, post:8, topic:296091”]

Part of the reason for that is that maps were designed to be ‘seamless’, and themed. Just by the type of terrain you could tell in what part of the world you were, and if you wanted to go into a specific direction you had to find an exit on that side. As opposed to simply finding an exit labeled with the right zone name.

In terms of actual terrain, the ToS world is far larger then the RO one, even after all the added content it got. But because of the above, it feels much smaller despite of this.

Agreed. There’s also the fact that it’s just one large country, no other continents or worlds other than Demon Prison currently.
