I’m wondering if you have to have a shield in your off-hand to block, or can you block with a dagger equipped?
no, you will do an attack with the dagger instead, you can however get a block for 2h sword if you go Highlander
You only get (auto) Block from CON stat if you have a shield. But with a skill like Stone Skin you get the Block stat itself so whatever you are wielding you can Block with it.
Also I guess if there is any item that gives the Block stat itself you can Block with it.
And then there is the manual block…of some swordman… (Peltasta? I guess XD) You need a shield for it to be able to use it for sure.
I meant passively block, without using a skill or pushing the button to use your off-hand item.
You can’t use shield. Equipping shield gives you block bonus and that’s it.
++ added
Pelta’s highguard is a buff skill. Use it and get extra block bonus (150~240) and lose half of your atk.
Ehh, what?
How about those Shield Peltasta\Rodelero skills? C button?
It would be good if corsair won a passive (or skill) to block attacks with two swords (or daggers)
Is a tip for IMC haha
Some kind of parry - riposite?
That would be nice to see. I might even change my default Archer starting class for something like that.
Imagine it, having DEX slightly affect your parry chance, with a riposite skill that should be used right after a parry in order to send your enemy flying backwards or just stagger them.
Peltasta’s and Rodelero’s passive allow you to hold C to put your shield up. This increases your block by a LOT, like 3x to 5x (or so it did in iCBT2), but of course rends you immobile while you hold the button. I’m pretty sure block direction isn’t taken into account. And yes, it does make high guard pretty useless, unless you need to be moving while tanking, or for the bonus damage on Rim and Umbo blow.
Wow, I didn’t know I could learn shield guard for 100 silver…
My life is wasted…
there are also skills that give you temporary block rate without shields
2H sword Cross-guard of Highlanders
Rapier Flacconade and Preparation of Fencers
As I understand it block is gained from CON as stated. if you have a shield you will block from time to time. If someone including yourself casts a skill that enables you to block it also triggers even without a shield.
However there doesn’t seem to be anything that supports the idea of blocking without either
- an item with a block attribute
- skills that allow blocking
This would mean, you can’t fully utilize CON without a shield
