Does anyone remember the game Secret of the Solstice? Or Solstice Reborn? It looks highly similar to those graphics, do you think they took the idea and art design and just remade it into a different game? and if so, how far does it differ from SoS or SR?

This is the most innocent thread ever. Not trying to turn this into the “OMFG THIS ISN’T RO” thread, but take a look at the game Ragnarok Online. SoS was pretty much a copy of RO, and the creators of many aspects of RO are working on Tree of Savior (Hakkyu Kim is the creator of bother RO and ToS).

You can’t really differentiate from other games all that much when you’re doing static fantasy backgrounds.

I feel as though the graphics are unique to its own, yes it does have similarities to Ragnarok Online but it still feels new and fresh.

Dang this game needs Desert in Future. I love desert so much. At least there are more snow areas…

To see the words “graphics”, “art design” and “similar” used in such poor fashion.
Well, since everyone else covered the basics, I won’t bother explaining the additional details.

Some obvious things (rant time!)

  • Tree of Savior greatly outclasses SoS, SR and it’s own ancestor, Ragnarok Online in terms of graphics.
  • SoS was released five years after RO with practically identical art styles.
  • ToS is superior in game mechanics by at least half a decade to all three of those titles.
  • This topic is flamebaitey as all.
  • They did take the art styles from ‘those’ (?) games… though considering ToS is made by the guy who created the most popular known game with that art style to begin with… it didn’t matter even if he didn’t. You can’t copyright an entire art style for good reason. (even if you did, that’s excessively silly)
  • How does ToS differ? Do your research or wait for the game, then play it. I don’t mind questions but this is pretty lazy considering you implied that this game is a rip-off. (it doesn’t even matter, but at least do your own research before you go around implying such things)

TL;DR

It isn’t. If it is, who cares. It’s within its rights and this thread is flamebait.

So… graphics, art desing need to be used in a fashion style (???). Also this is not flamebait. This guy just got the idea and ran here to wrote the question. Yes, lazy, for not use google, but hey i think we all have make the same mistake a couple of times. As Sourpuss said: ‘‘This is the most innocent thread ever’’.

Graphics simplify to ‘image on a screen’ where design/art style are more in relation to the fashion in which this form of art is done. To my knowledge that’s how it’s meant to be used.
I can elaborate on this if you want.
