Arent those as rare as all hell though? Is it consumable?

Umm I had 3 in my inventory from my 150 lvls quest so well… kinda rare. And yes, they are consumeable.

Yeah see I need something spammable like DBs, or the voting option =P

I don’t like the idea of giving players the ability to ban/kick a player, since it can be abused.

I’d go with the current orbs but increased chance of the drop since its very rare at the moment.

It could be abused but it would tough to do so. Limit AFK farming votes to 1 per hour or even 1 per day. As long as the community cares enough it will help resolve the issue.

The only way I could see it abused is if a group of 20 jerks get together and vote ban 1 person, and then the GMs would need to get involved and put infractions on the jerks.

Any solution can be abused, same with orbs. I could spam them in a noob area, it happened all the time in RO.

Your “dead branches” solution isn’t solving anything.

  1. First of all, it requires the person you are using it on to be low enough level to actually die; using it on a max level player will be pretty much completely useless.

  2. Secondly, the world is huge and every map is most likely going to have multiple channels once the game is released. I doubt many, if any, players are going to bother walking around all over the world, constantly switching channel, just so they maybe find a player auto attacking that they can kill. And even if they do, it is much easier for the guy you killed to just ress and continue with whatever he was doing than it is for you to keep him dead.

  3. You are wasting items on something completely pointless.

  4. Dead branches didn’t solve a single problem in RO, why would it do so here? RO is one of the most bot infested games I’ve played. And its market is absolutely terrible because of it.

This method doesn’t even attempt to stop people from auto attack farming, it’s basically saying that it’s completely fine to do. Getting killed once in a while isn’t going to discourage anyone.

Nice point, but still I do not like the idea of allowing players to have restriction/penalizing players upfront.

Since you have to go through waiting game to be cleared and we know GM’s does not take action immediately.

DB’s can be corrected by some highbie clearing it, and making it drop not on a very high chance “may” discourage people from using it on low level maps.

Well… If that system does not immediately ban/block/restrict a player until a GM checks the reporsts then maybe that would be an okay suggestion. It would sound like a report button or something.

Offering an easy way for the community to dispose of bots worked for a long time before the GMs in RO ruined it.

You used to be able to put a warp portal underneath players, and this would cause botters to be ported to somewhere that they would get rekt. GMs removed that, so the next best thing was dead branching.

I am just thinking out loud. DB is a bad solution but at least it gets people thinking. If the game was to force me to tap the button every time I auto-attacked I would quit today.

Unless there is some change to the auto attacking system the issue is going to stay. It’s not feasible to report/kill players doing this because there are way too many people doing it because of how easy it is. I’m not claiming that pressing the button with each attack is the best solution, but I think it will greatly reduce the number of player doing this. And any players that keep doing it using macros/auto clickers will be much fewer and hence easier to ban.

As i talked about earlier, something like being able to auto attack for x number of attacks, or y number of seconds will have the same effect, but you will still be able to auto attack. This is not “punishing” any real players.

Any change that hurts your regular player base is not a good one. At least a reporting system will result in actual action being taken, and would be hard to abuse if implemented correctly.

x number of attacks makes a bit more sense, since during bosses you are weaving your attacks with skills. It would have to be something high though like 50 swings.

I think having some kind of in-game report system could be a good idea, but it is definitely going to get abused. If anything like this is implemented it can’t have any direct effect on the player being reported. It must go through a staff/gm. I think the problem is that there will be waaay too many reports, fake or not, which would put too much stress on the gm’s.

The way you implement it, is that multiple players have to vote the same person, say 20 players, and you can only vote once every 2 hours or something.

You could also instead of triggering GMs just have it pop up a captcha, and if they fail the captcha or take too long get temp banned.

I don’t really see how afk farming will be inflating the economy as of current. What you can really do is farming at some monster with really low money gain. It takes a whole day to gain that 300k silver through afk farming, while I can earn it in an hour at level 150+.

Even the exp gain is mediocre as well, I had seen someone afk farming in demon prison, and only gain a level after a day of afk farming. Meanwhile I gain that level after half hour of grind.

The exp gain isn’t really the main concern in my opinion nor is it how much money they can make in the same amount of time frame as a player can. Obviously a human player will be able to farm more efficiently in a the same time as someone auto attacking in place. The problem is that someone afk farming can keep doing it all day long, not only gaining them lots of silver, but more importantly items. Some players have already killed more than 75 000 of a single enemy type. And thus they gain hundreds or even thousands of items, and that is just in the few weeks that the game has been in beta. Think about how bad it would that would be after a year. Plus there will be a lot more people abusing this when the game is released if nothing is done about it.

The market will be completely controlled by bots/afk’ers as they will aquire something like 95% of all items. Easily farmable items will lose all of its value and will get sold for vendor price at the market. And because pretty much all items will be sold by bots, they will make loads of money, which in turn will create a huge inflation on items that are actually valuable, such as hard to farm monster gems or the like.

There isn’t even much monsters in the game where you can AFK farm at. The one which gave the most money is probably the big red kepa, and it only works because it is a mini boss that spawn constantly at one spot, which gave everyone who attack it the same amount of silver.

Even so, the rate of money gain from it is laughable when you compare to the high level players. The current and future inflation is definitely caused by the big amount of money from the high level player, and definitely not by the AFK farmer, unless IMC decided to invent another high level monster similar to big red kepa (easy to kill, high spawn rate, give silvers equally to alot players).

Not that I’m saying afk farming shouldn’t be fixed, but the effect of it is really negligible apart from helping the lower level players to farm slightly faster.

As I’ve stated before; afk farming is far from an issue concerning only enemies that spawn in a fixed location. For example, any archer class can easily afk farm in nearly any area because of their long range and because of the auto targeting system.

That you can get 10 times as much money as an afker in an hour doesn’t matter when when there are hundreds of afk farmers active all day. And high level players gaining much more money doesn’t matter either since afk farmers will eventually get to high level areas as well.

It may be negligible in the beginning, but in the long term it will seriously mess up the economy.

i just watched a 92 archer doing that, 4 or 5 hours later he was still there and lvl 95 >_>

Or have IMC reprogram the Auto-Attack to only 3 attacks per press.

How did they handle this on Granado Espada?

IMC did nothing, it was a ‘feature’, the alternate name people call Granado Espada is AFK online since the combat system is similar to RTS games (Starcraft, warcraft, redalert,CoH,etc) where your units attack automatically any enemy that comes near them. Also you have a pet there that grabs loots for you since your characters have to manually grab the loots.

my guild used to call it ‘parking’, as you leave your characters to play another game and come back sometime later to do events and quest.

unlike ToS you can Alt+Tab in GE and your characters will stay in AA

if your were more evil you can log into alternate accounts and PK people to steal their AFK spot.

I’ve seen a char with the nick Tomazelli afk killing the red kepa so i think that if it were you, there is personal interest in your arguments, and you DO support it since you were doing it. Also this Z thing only happens because of a development failure where monsters spawn in the same place or people can negate damage by standing in higher ground, so it definetly should be fixed. It’s a no brainer that people should be in front of their computer to kill monsters.
