Did anyone notice that Stabbing and Pierce have no weapon requirement?
That means I can equip a 2H sword and use Stabbing which will give me much more damage than 1H spear…
Yes you can but do mind that 2H swords only have wider range and that spears still have longer range.
Also, Hoplite has finestra which can only be used when using spears 1H or 2H.
Yeah I noticed too, but pretty much doesn’t even matter for me for the same reasons @tsigetartseht listed.
Might be useful with high crit rate, but picking up a non hoplite class usually offers more damage than stabbing anyway.
stabbing does seem to be important to boss killing though; might be useful in the long run to have a good stab-poke-stab skill.
I’ve been entertaining the crazy idea of doing this:
Swordsman c1 -> Highlander c1 -> Hoplite c3 -> Barbarian c1
Weapon: 2H Sword
Rationale behind this build is this:
Highlander gives crit bonus attribute to 2H swords.
Combined with Barbarian’s Cleave (+50% crit rate for 5 secs each use)
Using 2H sword + Cleave + level 15 stabbing = very big damage.
Same with 2H sword + Cleave + level 15 Pierce on bosses = very big damage + chance of bleed
Although the last 15 skill points on Hoplite would be wasted though…every other skill requires a spear
But it all comes down to building around doing a burst to only bosses.
I didn’t find it very useful for my play style, and you can do similar amounts of damage without using all that build up (3 ranks of hoplite).
It’s hard to find relevance for those skills outside of boss fights, such as grinding or pvp.
But with all that crit rate and crit damage, I’m sure stabbing will hit very hard.
getting one in hop might add some utility, but not sure about building a whole character around 2 skills. looks alright though.
