Degree Of Freedom

I read the Steam Greenlight of TOS here it is http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=441500423

I’ll bold the thing that I want us to discuss

Major Characteristics :
Distinct Style
Massive Scale
Degree of Freedom

Degree of Freedom :
Various combinations are possible with different jobs, skills and stats
Players do not need to follow the fixed routes

it says here that the game has a degree of freedom and we dont need to follow a fixed route but my experience wasnt like this. I was bind by the quest and dont tell me to grind all the way because im not stupid to grind mindlessly if the quest gives more xp and I actually dont hate questing that much but doing the same thing over and over again is boring.

But my main purpose why I posted this is the fact that IMC included this “Degree of Freedom” on the characteristic of the game. Does this mean that theres a possibility they will fix the linearity of the game?
this gave me hope

PS: Sorry for my bad english

it’s still the beta. Who knows, maybe they’ll introduce multiple continents by OBT. I’m trying to stay optimistic.

imc are silent about this but after I read the “Degree of Freedom” on their greenlight my hope for this game rose up. I’ll stop spreading negativity about the linear system for now xD

I think it’s certainly possible for them to ‘fix’ the game to be less linear given its current state. There are a lot of blocked off areas in several maps, and I feel like in some instances, the maps themselves are incomplete, hinting that they could be bigger than we’ve experienced. Plenty of room to inject various interesting new npc’s and set pieces into the world beyond the main storyline, minidungeons and so on.

those are just higher lvl areas game will this linear for sure.

Er there is this thing called context. And in that context degree of freedom refers to BUILDS not maps/exploration. I wish maps were more open and explore-able but what you referenced has nothing to do with that.

Players do not need to follow the fixed routes
Fixed routes means linear gameplay following the same path like everyone else. I think my understanding of the phrase “Degree of Freedom” is right.

No it doesn’t that being said after talking about class/build options means that there are no linear builds EX if you make a hunter in wow you do X or your bad. Once again this thing called context.

Let’s just agree to disagree and agree that this game is in need to be more open world

Well i agree on open worlds but im not gonna agree to disagree on the context thing because its not a matter of opinion lol.

I mean, there was this button in the kCBT, but I dunno wtf happened to it. A lot of ■■■■ is missing from this CBT that I saw in the kCBT threads.

Supposedly that button starts you near Orsha (the top most city in the Royal Area) instead of Klaipeda

You have a good point and all op but the quest thing is just stupid.
If you think quest here are not so good then can you please give and examples of 3-5 quests that will be more fun. I do think quests can be somthing more but it not bad at the moment.

Not pinpointing everything on your map and making you actually read some stuff would be a start. Maybe some quests where you have options on who to help and it affects the outcome of other quests or some aspects of the story, maybe sends you to different places depending on the choices. Maybe some quests where you complete a puzzle. Even a quest that has you navigate through a huge dungeon to kill a boss, but you need to craft some stuff to make it there? But the catch is, the quest doesn’t tell you what you need or how to make it. That would be cool. Quests that you have to figure out for yourself or communicate with other players to complete. Oh yea, also the boss is diffucult to defeat even with a party.

Anything other than, go here, collect that, go there, kill this. Some quests like that are ok, but as i said earlier, without pinpointing exactly where to go.

Tired of games that try to hold my hand.

Ye quests that dont telling you what do worked good in everquest becouse there was no internet.
Now day you will just see what to do so what the point.having a puzzle is the same.having some choices in the quest is ok but even then people will take the choice that give them the reword they need.
Thats why quests now days are like this.

I don’t know man…if the whole “quest path” idea doesn’t get a big rework, this is what we’ll get. And it’s very unlikely they’ll change it at this point.

They will not and what for in the first.
