apparently yes, you can block without shields.
You still won’t have a block status, so no.
You’ll up your block stat, but that technically should do nothing for you without a shield.
However, if your a fencer, you will see that effect boost your block during flanconnade (which can be used with a dagger)

As a test, when you open your stat window, do you see the Block stat?
yes it says 380 block.

Mages don’t have a block stat
the block stat isnt there if you have 0 block rate. Once you get any the stat appears, its the same for my archer, cleric and sword so I imagine it would be like this for mages as well.
as for reference, when I have 300 block I’d say its like 50% , when I’m at 600 its almost 100%.
That’s relative, I can have 1k+ block rate at 200 and can’t auto block everything.
so technically need more experiments
So higher mobs have way more block pen?
