Lack of overheat in skills and long CD are making Cata pretty meh class…Imc need fix those thing to make Cata viable class.
Like I said haven’t really looked into most other classes do the majority of other classes have “overheat” on their skills? The long cooldown’s aren’t too bad as the game isn’t super spam based and realistically are 30-40 second cooldown on skills that hit multiple times and hard really that big of a deal?
This is not necessarily the case. In terms of pure damage, yes swapping cataphract for barbarian will result in an overall increase damage just from having extra skills, but what you’re trading for the extra damage is the utility of the increased movement speed from trot and mount.
A normal skill rotation with the crit cataphract build against a stationary target would be
spear lunge > pierce > stabbing > doom spike > earth wave > rush > spear lunge > pierce > stabbing
with a few seconds of downtime in between rush and the 2nd spear lunge where you pop your filler skills. After the second stabbing, dps would start to fall off due to rush being on cooldown and barbarians would start puling ahead in damage for about 10 seconds. With that said, this is under ideal conditions where the boss is a sitting sandbag, which isn’t usually the case for high level field bosses. There will be times where you have to reposition or times you need to heal and buff up. It’s in these situations where the utility from trot + mount truly shines.
In regular farming/leveling/questing the difference in dps isn’t as important. Usually mobs will die with 1 or 2 skills and you have to factor in the time it takes to pull a group, which makes the ability to spam skills 100% of the time not as important. In this case, movement speed is a lot more valuable here because it reduces the time it takes to pull a group and the time it takes to go from one part of the map to another (spawns die down after staying in 1 spot for awhile).
TL;DR: If I had to choose between being able to do 2-3 more skills worth of damage and the utility of permanently having 20 extra movement speed, I’d prefer to have the movement speed.
Some other things to consider.
- The argument above is considering the fact both cataphract build and barbarian build are at rank7 job. If we compare rank 5 cataphract and rank 5 barbarian, barbarian does a lot more damage when compared to the cataphract.
- There’s also the problem of getting too many damaging skills. We still have rank 8+ jobs to consider and if you have too many damaging skills, you’ll start having to pick and choose which ones to fit into your rotation. However, since rank 8+ isn’t available for testing, I left it out of my argument.
- For players going dragoon (rank 8 warrior class), it’ll probably be a mount based class (this is from the fact real life dragoons originally meant mounted infantry. Wiki link here). Having trot will be important for this build.
Few things to note here.
- He’s only job level 3 into cataphract circle 1. This is more of a showcase of a barbarian that’s able to mount than a cataphract.
- Weird stat build. In the comments, he said his build as of that video was 50-47-2-20-28, which doesn’t make sense because he’s opting for a dps build with highlander?? (he’s using spears so idk why he went highlander) and barbarian. Tanky stats and a dps build doesn’t go well together.
- He’s incredibly undergeared for the boss fight. If you watch closely, you’ll see he only auto attacks it for 1 damage and his main spear is a +4 lvl 75 white with 1 3 star crit rate gem. The boss fight may only be a few levels above him but you have to keep in mind that it’s a field boss in a dungeon zone and it’s scaled for a large group
- Overall poor play. He’s always in front of the boss waiting to get hit by cerberus fire AoE and stands ontop of him when using body slam. Note that body slam hits for over 10k/12k. That’s enough to kill any dps build if they get hit by it.
Gem roasting was mentioned in the above quote (Although I don’t think I mentioned it in the main article. Sorry if it wasn’t clear enough ^^)
It would be very huge lose if OP is aiming for Pve class. You are getting 3 skills with huge damage + 2 turns after overheat + low CD. You also miss War cry,and Frenzy… All this for trot would be not good…

Helm Chopper Attack:1445 CD: 24 2 turn after overheat
Cleave Attack: 1364 CD: 21 2 turns after overheat + 50 critical
Seism Attack: 1746 CD: 22 2 turns after overheat.
Cata:
Impaler Attack: 908 CD: 50 no overheat
Earth Wave: Attack: 1585 CD: 30 no overheat
Doom Spike: Attack: 1812 CD: 40 no overheat
Rush: Attack: 513 CD: 90s no overheat
Steed Charge: Attack: 1379 CD: 15 no overheat

Petasta Shield Mastery and Finestra you can get 45% block.
I think it is pretty cool ;D
I think Trot 15 is only for speed up…
In my opinion is lost 10 points.
With 5 points you can run nice, and get more points on other skills.
Impaler is more focused on PvP.
Steed Charge have a good damage, but the range you “jump” is very low.
45% more block to your block stat. Not 45% chance of block:
Block is calculated by a formula with (yourblockstat - yourennemybypassblockstat ) ^^
Cata Build seems much better now with the new updates, would be very cool if the OP commented on that and gave us new insight about the Cata Builds right now since you can’t really see a lot of Cata Builds around 
What has change on cataphract :
- Earth Wave and Doom Spike can be casted while moving.
- The two same skills now does multiple hits.
That’s what changed the cataphract a lot
