I like the current combat mechanics that rely on basic attacks for most of your damage output, however I think it could be made much more interesting.
From what I have seen and when I played, each character only does one animation for the basic attack. Melee type characters might fire the same animation from each side of their body but it still appears to be the same. I think the normal every day combat would be much more interesting if rather than repeating the same exact hit animation on every attack the characters were given a basic 1-2-3-etc. combo attack animation with their basic attacks. They could still hit and animate at the same speed, so the tempo would stay the same, but a little variety in the animations would go a long way.
The character designs, animation and art style of this game are what draws me into it. The first time I saw the long and wavy hair style sway back and forth while running around was amazing. The more animations in this game the better, and it would be especially meaningful if the one animation we see most often was replaced with a string of 3-4 beautiful animations.
