Cool Down/ Overheat system

Some feedback regarding the cool down and overheat system.

I honestly felt that it is killing the game for me.

RO was my childhood, i get it when a lot of people here keep saying that “TOS IS NOT RO, ITS TOS FOR GODSAKE” but my 2 cents when i know about TOS, “its by the developer of RO” its already a sign that they are trying to buy “old RO” players back into the game and you cant deny that players hope to see alot of “RO feel” in this game. They are trying to move in that direction because they know that there are millions of RO fans out there.

Of course we are not asking for it to be 100% identical as well.

Most of that million’s of players playing RO 10 years ago are probably around 25 years old++. And seriously we are ready to move on anytime.

One of the many reason why we are still giving feedback like “What made RO fun…” is because we do see the potential of TOS in the shadow of RO, and hope that by giving some feedback it can help the game to “retain” what was good in RO. Since its CBT now, huge changes can still be made.

Some aspect feels kinda RO’ish which is ok for me and a lot of good feedback + reviews were already made, such as the “stats”, “diversity” , “linear”, “op/balance” stuffs.

but i would still like to take a moment to rant about cooldown and overheat system.

Overheat

There are 2 - 3 charges for spells that are used more frequently. But the problem which i have is that each of these charges should have their own internal cool down.

It appears that these charges share the same CD, i do see the charges reset if i don’t use the spell long enough. but i would rather just use all the charges and set it on its own cool down than to wait for the charge to refresh.

For example.

Ice bolt - 3 charges. 15 seconds CD

After casting the first charge, i would expect it to start having its own cooldown timer, at the end of 15 seconds from where i first used the charge, it should already be taken off that 3 charges i have for the spell, this would be more reasonable for me at least.

so many times, i am perhaps at that 14 seconds and i fired by 3rd bolt. it brings the entire spell back to another 15 seconds cooldown until all the charges are up, my eyes just rolled so hard that i could see my brain pulsating with hate, while trying my best to AA the mob to death.

Cool down

I understand that there is a need to balance cool downs especially when the same set of spells are going to be used in PVP. But at the moment some of the cooldowns are so hefty even on your basic spells.

The fact that we cant sustain that mass spamming of spells due to SP pool it’s already pretty sad and your bread and butter spells are going on 15 - 30 seconds CD.

Even moba games like Dota dont have these basic spells on CD for so long. Some are meant to be spammable every 2 - 3 seconds and not going on a “overheat” status.

its just dead boring to circle around the mobs due to your spells being on CD for 30 seconds…Its different in RO, every step / kiting you are doing, is probably to position yourself or to create enough space for you to cast your spells. and to me this exciting and rewarding if its done correctly.

The Combat in TOS is already pretty much different from RO. IMO it would be perfect if they use back the spell mechanics or perhaps similar to it. Where its very satisfying if you manage to catch that “clutch” moment to cast your spell, killing the mobs in return.

And rather not WoW or any other MMO out there where you are watching your CD of spells with DPS meters etc. These are not grind games, i basically run and kill exactly 15 of the mobs which is required by the quest and say bye bye to the mob. and to be honest, most of the spells in these MMO are based off spell casting times as well. “fire ball…shadow bolt…”

Its just not really viable if you are talking about grind game where basically you have to keep killing and killing stuff, CD is a big nono for most of the spells. unless you are talking about spells that render you immune /god mode, there can be exceptions.

Ranting from a Wizard, i am pretty sure warriors don’t really have these problem since its AA ftw for them.
