Controller UI/controls need a HUGE rework

Look, I’ll be blunt. Controller mode right now is an AWFUL afterthought. It takes 10x longer to do ANYTHING, on a game that’s practically designed for controllers.

Please take a look at FFXIV to see how to do controllers properly. There needs to be a separate UI. Pressing start should bring up a list of all of the options (such as character, abilities, etc), not just logout/settings. Pressing left/right dpad should maneuver between options, not require you to use a pseudo-mouse mode. So on and so forth.

Please, spend some time on actually designing a UI that works with controllers, because right now it’s a bloody mess.

Which is hilarious because a large portion of the population during the betas played on controllers. And many still do.

Huh? It’s not designed for controllers at all, simply by looking at the amount of classes and skills that the game has.

Just play the game on the keyboard, that’s what it is actually designed for, lol.

I agree I have to use a mouse for menu navigation, and the controller is only good for basic movement and attack. not as comfy as I had hoped, but steam did note that the game only has partial controller support so I couldn’t complain :stuck_out_tongue:

I am intrigued though, was this game designed for consoles originally? as other games like the one mentioned were designed for cross-platform.

We should be able to change controller setting in game, not only in the file…

@Skygrinder: FFXIV has many more abilities but works fine. You can use RT/LT + ABXY or DPAD to do your abilities, and switch between 8 more options via RB. Trust me, the amount of abilities is NOT an issue here.

The main problem comes from the UI not being designed for proper interaction with the controller. Why can I not open menus with my controller? Why can I not manipulate my inventory with it? Or shop with it? So on and so forth.

I love the controller for combat, but having to constantly be using my mouse as well is a PITA.

Either way, mmos in general are more suited for keyboard, since you want to be able to communicate with other players.

Well, at least most people do.

And honestly, keyboard controls are good in ToS, so why not just use that? I’d understand if combat was actually bad on keyboard, but since it’s good, there’s no real reason not to use it.

Just go keyboard and wait for some overhaul for controller to happen, since I doubt they will really bother with controllers right now, when there are so many other problems with the game that need way more attention.

not to mention there are other MMOs with controller support such as TESO, Neverwinter, DCUO, Tera, and Marvel Heroes(?) just off the top of my head, though I’m not sure if theirs is as smooth as FFXIV’s as I’ve only played 3 of them lol

it’s baffling why they had to add controller support if it’s only partial, when the game is as action-packed as an mmorpg like ToS.
