Concerning Valentines Contest Results - Traced Art?

I meant just from the entries, not from their reaction to being questioned. Now that you presented me ninamyuu reaction i can also cut her some slack.

They tried to participate with the skills they had and it turns out it wasn’t appropriate for the contest rules.

But the selection failed worst by allowing this mistake .

IP theft has always been against the rules. they tried to participate by cheating even if they didn’t know they were cheating. they’re held accountable too. the staff is too at a degree, but that’s why they make up for it by responding to the community.

like i said, it takes a degree of skill to pick up on plagiarized work/inconsistent styles. some things just can’t be helped. that’s why most community managers work alongside the community to help keep the credibility of these festivals/contests up.

And so CaptainToog used a tree model of videogame FEZ as inspiration to do his, three years ago.
And I used some to build mine.

Again: I don’t have to expose the creative process.

p.s: stop tagging me in this thread. I’m done with this nest of snakes.

For once, i agree…

Well??

Erm… wasn’t it 4 years ago? Also, no pixel by pixel copy.

As from yelling before or not, contest rules are crystal clear on this point, IP Theft was never allowed, you submitted plagiarized content to the event and that’s the fact, if you change it or not, it is against the rules contest is already over. You’re the one that should have worried on making a proper work and submitting it on time.

@STAFF_Yuri, there are multiple plagiarized contents on @windysama submit.

off topic butttt
What costume is that?

Thank you.

20 characters is still a thing.

I don’t know what you’re trying to say here. That it’s OK to steal someone elses work because other people do it? I don’t know who CaptainToog is and you’re not providing enough information for me to care.

I don’t have much to say.

If you are having a hard time remembering where I stand, please refer to all my posts in this thread.

If you’re so upset that this thread even exists and that people keep hounding you to source your material, WHY NOT SOURCE YOUR MATERIAL AND BE DONE WITH IT.

The difference between likeness/inspiration and art theft is that with the former, you can’t place one image over the other and have pixel line up almost exactly.

You made small changes to the tree such as widening it, adding an extra branch and changing some of the shading, but the fact that the random dots in the leaves match exactly proves that you stole another person’s work to create your own. That is plagiarism, no matter how much you stubbornly deny it and claim ignorance.

“Inspiration” should never involve cutting and pasting an exact copy of another person’s work.

Look, just a random person here not trying to attack anyone but…

Sorry to say but that is plagiarism. Just because its not identical doesn’t mean it’s not plagiarism…
Also the strawman argument response ‘well this insert random person did it in the past’ Uh ( ̄_ ̄)・・・ You’re not actually serious there are you?

Though the real crime here is how some really amazing work didn’t get selected 。・゚゚*(>д<)*゚゚・。

This is basically tracing in pixel form. If it were a stolen paragraph, it’s like changing/adding a few words and claiming that the original paragraph “insipred” “your” paragraph.

Using something as a “base” or “inspiration” might mean doing your OWN ORIGINAL drawing of a character, perahps in the same pose as the one in your inspiration, but that’s the extent of it.

If this image were an essay, it’s got an obviously plagarised paragraph or two, with one or two under suspicion. Thing is, just one paragraph is enough to declare the paper plagiarized and give no credit/punish the plagiarizer.

It’s also the fact that this isn’t the first sample of stolen pixelart in this single piece. We now have two parts of the piece that have been confirmed traced off other artists’ works down to exact pixel placement (the tree and the blonde character’s hair). We also don’t know yet if other parts were traced from other pixelart, which is starting to look more and more likely.

This isn’t up for debate anymore. This is a case of plagiarism, and I’d like to see proper repercussions for this as well. Tsunami9 at least had the decency to own up to her mistake and apologize.

Yeah. I could go on, like-

ohhhh. Ohhhhh… Ohhhh…
Not sure how copyrighted this character is, or if they allow them as a base, though. It’s a pixel-making app, so it may allow you to work off the mascot’s pixel, but as far as I see, it seems just the mascot character. But even if it is offered as a base, not sure that would allow users to sell the work/pass it off as their own, though.

Kinda hard to look for. But hey

@windysama do you like this character I draw totally by myself?

So how much more proof will Staff need in order to make this right.

And here’s what happens when you simply google pixel art heart. What’s next, I’m sure even the grass is stolen at this point. @STAFF_Yuri
