Class Circles and Skills Need Clarity Improvements

While I am most certainly enjoying and being fascinated by the branching class circle system that ToS features, I feel as if the inability to correct a mistake in class/circle selection is very much a hindrance to new players who need to experiment with the builds in order to get the progression they want to see.

For instance, I had several archer builds in mind that I wanted to try and hopefully not waste my Founder’s Pack bonuses on. While I haven’t made too big of an advancement mistake and can salvage it slightly by rearranging class lineups and possibly finding a new character for my companion (thank god they can go between characters), I found several factors causing me to want a reset of my character class circles (for whatever a fair price is) without effectively chucking some of my Founder’s pack benefits goodbye:

1 - Current easily available resources regarding the skills and their interactions with other classes and other skills is decentralized and hard to find, in English anyways. For example, mounted classes cannot use a lot of skills, and the companion skills from hunter are supposedly usable with falconer, but it’s tough to be sure if that is the case with the state of the information availability right now. Over time, the reference websites and fansites will improve, but right now, they are inadequate for picky players like myself who might make a mistake and have the feeling nag at me while I play.

2 - Not knowing the end-game goal can create super wonky build paths early on. Being offered the choice of three to four options without seeing what each of them take away from is possibly setting up for wasted time and money situations where a player feels like progressing until he or she figures out that their previous career choices weren’t the best idea and they can’t even pay to correct it.

3 - I see stat resets, and I see skill point resets, but I do not see class circle resets. There ought to be a system in place to reset skill circles too. It was stated in the devblog (or something similar was stated) that each character should feel unique, built from the ground up. If the building rests on a shaky foundation ripe for character deletion (and the loss of time and bound items or memories), having no way to repair said foundation and being forced to build a new one is disgruntling indeed.

The game could improve the experience by having an in-game or web-based reference class tree builder such that players can see what choices they make while knowing what will work and what won’t. This reference tool should be complete, with any questions being answered and recorded onto the database. Class circle resets could also be offered at a reasonable price, and while it would prove a nice money trap for new yet paying players, it allows the option to exist in the first place.
Alternatively, switching classes and circles could be free, or at the cost of a time-consuming prerequisite. Just as people may switch jobs in their lifetime, why can’t ToS characters switch jobs within theirs instead of being prematurely sacrificed with whatever they had on hand picked clean just for a new character with similar goals?

Sincerely,
A disgruntled archer

EDIT: I found a post that has information that would’ve been useful to know at one of those fansites or in an official informational reference article on the website. https://www.reddit.com/r/treeofsavior/comments/3m7kf7/mounting_and_skill_compatibility/

I totally agree with you. I had to reroll two times cause of things like this and because there is no way to change classes later on …

I disagree currently. With proper planing you can avoid these issues.

HOWEVER! My concern is with later additions and drastic class changes.

Small changes in the game can already make a character invalid. It is understood some abilities may require adjustment, but in some cases they may change the way a skill performs.

In short, you need to plan better if you are failing this early, but with new/changing content I agree with the request to be able to drop/reassign classes.

P.S. I am nervous about selecting my rank 6 and 7…

Proper planning, yes, and I actually like that you disagree.
I just really think right now that the resources to plan are very decentralized, and hard to properly interpret at times, which needs to be addressed especially with your thought about future plans.
