Clarification on Doppelsoeldner's Punish

So as I understand it, an enemy needs to be knocked down in order for this skill to work.
However, this skill also has a very wide range (AOE attack ratio 3)
So, in a group of 3 enemies, if only 1 is knocked down, does that mean this skill will only hit that 1 enemy?

Also, I don’t know if it is even possible to knock down bosses, does that mean this skill will never work on bosses?

as i understand it, yeah, it will work only on knocked down enemies. so the 2 mobs standing will never get hit.

yeah i dont know if bosses can be knocked down, i watched some boss videos and i saw no knocked down boss
