Choose between these two builds (Evolved into Fencer Tank build discussion)

This isn’t a question I can ponder any longer, it’s haunting me day and night… (not reallly of course )
Basically I’m trying to decide between two tank builds, and I’m just going to have you decide… so here:

This one I planned to switch weapons, and fencer would mostly be for bosses. (mostly 'cause Finestra’s splash attribute which will be good for keeping mobs aggro)
This one will probably end up on top, in terms of DPS.

CC and Slithering, no weapon swap… Nothing else to say.

Feel free to suggest things, just make a definitive statement about which I should pick.

Thank you for ending my suffering. :expressionless:

You need to use rapier for fencer skill and finestra is only works on 1h and 2h spears, so imo hoplite and fencer dont have synergy. Your second build seems better btw

Well, that pretty much decides it…
I was thinking that Finestra is just another buff and forgot that it’s more of a stance.
It’s the smaller things you don’t notice. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you. :kissing_heart:

But why would you go Rodelero c3 though? All c3 does is offer a little bit more strike damage, nothing major. Swap it out for Fencer c2 instead. Fencer c2 is miles better than c1, so much more +evade bonus from skills and more damage for pierce attacks

So something like this?

Also recommended skills to take on fencer? I’ve never played one but this (above) seemed to be a good choice for tanks.

You need more level 1 of some skills - Shield Charge and Shield Shoving may come in handy. I’d take it out of Montana, it’s only there for the stun/slow.
As a tank I’d max lunge and Esquive Toucher for the evasion, Attack Coquille 1 is enough for the debuff. Flaconnade 1 is enough for the effect too.

Shield Charge doesn’t seem all that useful, it’s basically just another knockdown skill with a long CD. (40 Seconds)
Shield Shoving is something I’m unsure about, I can’t really think of a PvE situation that would benefit from this unless you can use it on bosses…
However feel free to change my mind. :hushed:

As for the advice on Fencer, I’ve gladly taken that:

But I wasn’t sure what to do with the 3 extra points so I just put them in Sept Etoiles. Thoughts on this revised version?

Take your points off Gung Ho. You can’t use it and Guardian at the same time, and you will want Guardian for its attribute most of the time (since you probably will have high DEX too), meanwhile GH damage buff falls off really fast.

Get Concentrate to 5, Thrust to 1 and last point can be left aside or getting Bash to 4.

Attaque Coquille’s debuff lasts longer with higher levels (2s per level), so you need level 4 at least for 100% uptime, or higher levels so you don’t need to cast it so often.

I dont remember, but either Lunge or Esquive Toucher were “noob traps”, the animation is too short for the evasion bonus to actually matter, just wasting your skill points. You can probably find the answer with the search function, Fencer was well discussed on the forum.

I thought that Concentrate was the buff that was practically useless late game?
Either way, on this one I just rushed through the beginning and I meant to take Concentrate to 5 over Gung Ho anyways.

Why would you get thrust? It’s pretty awful, isn’t it?

If your right and the debuff duration is relative to skill level that’s good to know.

I’ve looked and both Lunge and Esquive Toucher seem to be fine, so if you can provide a source that would be great.

As for the stats I was thinking of doing 1/4/2 or 1/3/3 STR/CON/DEX

thrust is a ok skill to start with. Pierce damage and no CD.

Yeah, but shouldn’t you just get the extra 17 damage in bash, something you might actually use later in the game?
Although, then again, it’s 17 damage. lol

oh yeah sorry didnt saw your build. Go for bash/concentrate/pain barrier.

@Raiden121212: I’d max Att.Compose because it has zero cd

which is better, composee (piece) or flanconnade (deffensive slash)?

Both are, but you can use Concentrate with Guardian, and Concentrate doesnt decrease defense.

It has % damage attribute, so it will always be better than basic attacks while your other skills are on CD…

Actually, Coquille starts with 5s and gain 1s per level, so you need level 6 for perma debuff: http://tos.nexon.com/gameinfo/jobview.aspx?classid=1014
(last column is duration)

Anyways, I would drop points needed from Esquive Toucher. Damage scales like crap and the animation (evasion buff period) is too short for a 30s cd skill.

According to that link you only need level 4, just like you said in your original post…

Also Esquive Toucher hits around 5 times so whatever damage it gains is actually x5.

Thrust would only (maybe) be worth it in ranks 1-5 after that I would be using Flanconnade. Therefore it won’t add anything whether I take it or not.
And if I recall correctly it’s actually slower than your standard attack, making it even worse

LOL, idk what happened when I saw that again…

You should compare it with the whole damage you will do in the end… which basicaly all of it is determined by your physical attack stat. Gaining 260 damage for 5 skill points is trash at rank 7.

Flanc is slash type, Thust is pierce. Unless you decide to get Attaque Compose lvl 1 (which hits twice but drains a lot more SP), Thrust is still better than normal attack cause it has % attribute regardless.

You can let Etoiles at 1 (i dont think it gains additional hits per level) and Esquive at 9 to get Coquille at 4 then.

W/e else floats your boat. :sun_with_face:

@Erokhi said to me that you need c3 pelt to use those high guard att…
now im prob dropping pelt 2 bcz it wont add much to my build…
sad day…

so… now i dont know again.
