Character Customization

As much as I love this game, my current disappointed with the game is the customization options. I completely understand keeping to a theme/uniformal look when it comes to art direction/game design (I’m graduating from a game design degree myself) but sometimes player choice is more important rather than putting too much limitations to fit the given theme. Player customization is one of those areas.

  1. Hair
I love the hair choices. They’re all pretty awesome and a couple of them I don’t see often in other mmorpgs. However, having to kill 500 hanammings for black hair… ca’mon guys. Really? I have to massacre a field of monsters to get a natural hair colour? is it because of the game’s art direction? if it is, at least let us choose between the colours you give us.

  2. Skin tone
I’m not sure if it’s because of the engine or what that you can’t implement this feature, or you guys have a reason for not doing this but I think this needs to happen. Even if you can’t get a tonne of shades in.

  3. Starting outfit
I think it would be unrealistic to have a few more starting outfits (though that would be awesome) but being able to choose from a few colours would be nice.

What I’m trying to emphasise is player choice. I could ask for even more stuff and we could get into even more detail like, eyes, newbie hair accessories and hats (not as good looking as you pick up in the field), and etc but just these 3 things would suffice. It’s 2015, character customization is supposed to get more complex and give us more choice. Here you guys have given us almost nothing except awesome hair.

When it comes to customization, the act of choosing is what’s important, not what’s being chosen.

I agree  Maybe the basic Haircolors should be atleast dark brown, blond and the color the hairstyle has already? I think its good that you have to work for colors like black and such.
Skintone would be good, atleast have 3 a very light one the standart color and a nice dark brown.
For outfit colors i think that should be something you have to unlock in game

I agree with you really the game needs a little more customization.

i think this will come like quest or cash

I agree with @BloodHeartless
I feel it’s a likely chance that some of these things will either need to be purchased or you have to quest for.

I am also a little bit disappointed. I expected at least as much customisation as there was in RO. I even encounter situations in which I can’t distinguish my character from several others in the same place while on a quest.

That’s such a shame… :s

Took me a while to find this…

Q) Please give us options to change characters’ eye colors or hair colors.

A) We already have a feature to change eye colors or hair colors of characters in the game. But instead of making them possible when selecting a character, we want players to obtain them in the game.

We hope for your understanding for this since we believe that players will be more affectionate to their characters when they become unique and distinct from other players’ characters after a long period of playtime instead of just allowing diverse customization options from the beginning.

Its from the official ToS blog.

I think it goes the same for other aspects for customization, you need to work for it. xD

Yeh the Q&A stuff is really good, I just wish it was categorized somewhere so we don’t have to search through dozens of pages ><

I don’t mind working to unlock things. In fact, I’m all for it. But I like I said, I’m emphasising player choice, not the contents of what we’re choosing. It’s the act of choosing when starting out. You know when you’re playing street racing games and you can choose between like, 5 different spoilers and still unlock another 10. As if you’re gonna use all the spoilers. But it feels good knowing you had a choice. I think this is a psychological thing. Do you think the world would be the same today if everyone was forced to use Bulbasaur? o_o

E.g, we should be able to choose from a small selection of natural colours then work for the more radical colours like purple, pink, red, yellow etc. This way it’s almost like I unlocked hair dye or eye contacts. They can even step it up and have gradient hair. Imagine that. Gradient hair. (wouldn’t even mind if this was a cash shop only thing.)

I see where they’re going with the affection thing but normally you’d bond with your character after customizing him/her to your liking, then grow more affectionate through gear and equipment. I find it hard to bond with a character that’s essentially a clone of the 4 guys next to me lol. Also given the character size, gear stands out more on the screen. I have a few words to say about the 25 level difference between gear changing (15 then… 40? grind starts at like, 25 lol. /forever stuck with Morning Star) but that’ll be for another time >.>.

Now that I think about it, they have things kinda back to front…
“Want extremely slick hair or a lushous ponytail?”
“You got it!”
“Want blue eyes?”
“Lol no. Work for it.”
=_=

Skin tone and hair is important to have on character criation (in Ragnarok we never could create a black character, even today lol), but the outfits i think is a class unique. The color would be sell on cash shop; skins are the most profitable things you can sell in cash. Or another types of hair, or color too.

if cash is just cosmetics will be great

Basic hair colors and appearances should be given at character creation. I ain’t trying to kill 500 mobs to change from black hair to brown hair or vice versa

You will have cosmetic items to sell in the store ?

I killed the 500 hanamings and it says I got the achievement but have nothing other than basic color under my character tab? any of you actually get it?

More hair choices please/ <3

Should atleast add hair color and skin tone. Others like eyes, body build and etc are hard to notice

Yeah, I got it. Maybe you had a bug or something.
And this black tbh is a bit disappointing. Thought it would be more darker, like night black.

That doesn’t even look like black… unless my eyes are deceiving me, that looks like dark brown.

Yeah i think its weird that there isnt even simple pallete swaps.

Its 2015,customization is a thing, and this game should have a lot more.

I think it would be neat if you could go to a dyer NPC and they can dye your class costume for a price, for example if you’ve ever played or at least seen halos customization, you can change two colours on your armour, the base colour and the detail colour, perhaps they could do something like that?
