Censoring "Gay" isnt homophobic?

I dont know if im thinking too much, but, why censure the word “gay”?

Gay is often used as a derogatory term (“that’s so gay”, “stop being so gay”, etc). Since the banned words list comes from the korean version, they don’t ban stuff like “■■■” because it’s not very popular an insult there.

And no. It’s not homophobic. A “homophobic” behavior would be banning homosexual players and/or forbidding any mention to non-heterosexual sex (instead of forbidding all mentions to any kind of sex), not a singular word which also doubles as a derogatory term.

Thanks for the really nice response

If you have any doubt that the banned word list comes from korea, try saying “ecchi”. That’s a popular “”"“sexual”"""/very mildly derogatory term on the east, not so much on the west, yet it’s banned.

Now try writing an insult in, say, portuguese. “Merda” (the s word), for instance. Not banned. Try writing the s word. Banned. The only banned words are popular insulting/derogatory/sexual words in the Korea region, language notwhitstanding.

I doubt their censored word list is hard coded so why not modify it for the international version to suit western culture?

That’s something only IMC can answer, but I’d guess it’s on a veeeeery very low priority on their list.

You mean where it’s PRIMARILY used as a SLUR in western culture?

Yea, how about no. There are next to no games for this age bracket that allow the word to be used because they know how it’s actually used…

I thought he meant the words “ecchi” and “hentai” being censored at the west while derogatory (and very crude) terms like “■■■” and “dyke” not being.

As long as the word LoliLicker can be used, I have no problems.

Unless the shotacon people show up and report me.

Did you seriously just imply that the term gay is primarily used as a slur? lmao??

Or am I misreading that — in the LGBT community & just about everywhere else in the united states, “gay” is most often a common & harmless term for homosexuals. Used by gay people themselves, used by news outlets, and even used by the US government… It’s not a slur.

I wouldn’t call imc homophobic over this though, just lazy for not editing the list, &/or ignorant for not knowing its commonplace relevance in english. — I find it annoying that it’s censored as it’s a helpful descriptor for some. The word isn’t inappropriate.

To be honest though, the censor that I hate the most is " cl ass " — it gets me every time.

also I assume mostly straight people are the ones who think gay is an insult/slur, such a shame.
Censoring it only validates the incorrect idea that it’s something inappropriate and that being called gay/being gay are a negative thing.
but alright.

You could always go with “Trick-sama”.

Type massive breasts and massive will be censored instead of breasts 10/10

its very reasonable for gay to be banned as like the guy said. its used as an internet derogatory term. you’re gay, stop being gay, gayboi, thats so gay… since the dawn of the internet gaming nerds and forum/chatroom kids have been using it as a means of a put down rather than describing someones sexual preference… so yes… to the koreans they are banning hate filled words. SURE they miss the more obvious english words that have clear negative impact… but the koreans dont see those words thrown around as much as the term gay… arent there websites that are dedicated to showing you how often someone on twitter or facebook posts the word gay with like 99% of the time its “Thats gay!” and its posted 1000’s of times a minute? Its just pure and simple hate speech they are banning. And No they dont have to associate themselves with our English vernacular to provide us a game… we are playing the INTERNATIONAL version… more than just the united states.
