that team lack dmg and invasion power, so a team that can properly zone them out + a little of invade retreat can really mess them up.

So my ideal team to beat them would be a bunch of mobility threats instead of perfect defense.

1 cata3 (myself)
-rush in with ausrine and remove as much r7f and back out for 2nd ausrine (statue should still be up), then it is positioning to force them to bundle up for cc
-cata serve well as the initial vanguard to obtain positioning

wiz3+linker1+sorc1+necro2
-summon minions to go in to make a mess with near no draw back, opponent must use CD to get rid of them; weaken them for nearly no cost, or make them give up position.
-Flesh cannon also serve for a ranged threat that instant kill.
-If r7f is mostly out, link + magic missile combo will wreck them.

chrono3
-usually have less fire power than psycho, but for cc power, it is pretty close
-bonus of revive
-haste is great, it make everything super hard to kill due to movement speed alone.
-would prefer a pyro for extra dmg, but most people have cryo for this build, which i dont really mind neither; but this case they have alot of PD freeze immune so only ice wall is useful to trap them for ultimate cc
-pass would make a single kab and pd keep up their r7f and bloodletting VERY often.

deiv3 kab
-ausrine, r7f, safety zone, heal
-zoning with owl

[insert class that can counter raise]
-oracle
-thau, but ideally another healer is better for team mates messing up, but if warlock, the extra dmg can really burst down opposing clerics.
either one is fine, just for raise removal for “oh **** we messed up, save us!” moment
-priest revive work fine too

imo pvp still ultimately about positioning

why con cata is good? because they dont give up positioning as easily. Everyone need positioning to do their job, and cata help them get that easily. In a way, we are a support class (that can charge in and kill if opponent mess up). We are sheep dogs that herd the sheeps XD

In a perfect, balanced TOS world, your counter could work.

In the game’s state right now though, here’s what will likely happen (based on my own exp and from what I’ve spectated, especially in high-rank matches):

Kino’s Magnetic Force will catch you, consume your R7F (Kino has Ausrine too), and makes your Ausrine expire. Even if you’re not caught and is able to return to base, almost always you won’t have a chance to get a 2nd Ausrine.

Rushing in, while in theory seems viable, is rarely a good strategy unless the opposing team lack CC, survivality, or both.

…and having a significantly more effective draft, and in the game’s current state, we swordsman (as I’ve said in an older reply) are better replaced by another class as the 5th man in high-rank matches. It’s a sad fact.

I asked everyone about how to counter the lineup I made as a Cata of the opposing team because I might have been missing something and really want to know how.

I’ve been in similar matches and - if we lost, I almost always feel like my team would have faired better if I was another wiz or cleric; if we won, it’s usually due to either luck or which team executed their CCs and nukes better.

High-rank players know what cataphracts can do and how to counter them. While we also know what they can do to us and how we can possibly avoid getting caught or dying fast while still raking a kill or two, the imbalance will always be in their favor.

If they use magnetic force on me alone, thats great, one less threat for the main group.

Generally the cata + ausrine will survive just about anything easily for 2nd ausrine. If I have ausrine, I have never been unable to make it back to my cleric. The rushing is actually pretty easy with ausrine up, there is zero reason not to do it. Go in earthwave over the wall, then check situation, put up pain barrier and use rush.

I basically rush every single game that i have ausrine. There is zero reason not to do it. If opponent dont have r7f or freeze, i would charge in earth wave THEN get ausrine after. (i wish the skill is not called rush, this is getting a little confusing)

The mobility of cata helping us survive and waste CD is the greatest asset of cata.

If opponent is good, they actually won’t try to use magnetic force or anything on me. Their best choice is to push toward my main group and lure me there to AoE CC us all at once. That’s the counter play. I will have trouble swimming inside all the high dmg AoE.

While my counter play would be trying to screw up their formation keeping 2 guys with me in the back, so front line become 4vs3, advantage to my team.

as for replacing cata3 with something else. Sure, a psycho warlock + haste would be a better replacement to do my job but better (more dmg, stronger cc, more hp). Unfortunately for them, chrono3 isn’t common, so I still got a job XD (our biggest competition for job is actually chrono with their haste)

Can you recommend me a video to this similar play? Perhaps you can upload a play of your own? I’d love to learn more about different tactics for cata play.

/ninja’ed so nevermind.

Ok, I just got to rank 3 cata, pumped rush to 5, and I’m really sad it doesn’t work with Trident. Why did I think it would…

That moment when you are carrying your team like a boss, then you realize you are 4v5 and still lose :frowning:

The saving grace is that you get remembered

So. Your that dalton. That is why your name sound familiar when we teamed up …your a forumer also hue hue

haha so it was you bud! I think I may have gotten teamed up or matched against you yesterday.

Everyone, since cards are getting implemented - what are good cards for Sw3 Cata3 builds?

Minotaur Card : [Card Slot Equip] When dealing physical damage, there’s a [★]% chance to inflict the stun debuff for 3 seconds.

Minotaur looks good for improving our stuns, but there could be other nice ones out there. I haven’t had a chance to really look up and check out the list.

Thing is, this card system seems to make archers a bit OP then. Imagine if they had Minotaur and TS card:

Templeshooter Card: Missile attacks have a [card count]% chance to silence for 5 seconds.

As if wizards weren’t OP enough:

Kubas Card : Magic attacks have a [card count]% chance to sleep for 4 seconds.

EDIT: Here’s the list http://pastebin.com/PrCkZ21n

Abomination Card : [Card Slot Equip] When receiving a dark property attack, there’s a [★]% chance to reflect 50% of the damage received. [Summoner Tome] Can be used to summon Abomination with the Summoning skill.

Hello Dark Theurge my old friend. Too bad it’s not that convenient to be swapping cards all the time (they get reduced by one level when removed from slot).

True story. Also, as if their damage weren’t high enough:

Chapparition Card : [Card Slot Equip] Increases magic attack power by [★]% for 10 seconds when using an SP Potion. [Summoner Tome] Can be used to summon Chapparition with the Summoning skill.

I hope these don’t stack so nothing goes too OP and that we’ll be able to create different combinations.

Hey guys - Can you help me list out what skills usually take us out the most really fast?

To start:

  • Dark Theurge - can be avoided, but if it hits, it hits really hard
  • R7F - can be cancelled by poking them, but could make you die in an instant if unnoticed

Do monster card works in TBL? Abomination card seems good to counter Dark Theurge.
