Cataphract 3 has Rush. You can use a 1H spear or a 2H spear for it. This allows for some interesting encounters, because 1H spears will also allow you to Block incoming physical attacks/skills while using Rush. This is especially effective with Stone Skin.
Finestra from Hoplite is also valuable for “tanking,” because it offers a bonus to Block by a % amount per level. You don’t just get the utility from Finestra. You can also bolster it with the Zega Spear. Incidentally, it’s a 1H spear that magically increases every Hoplite skill by 2 when it’s equipped. This means extra Block rate. With Finestra 7, Stoneskin, and Guard active at the same time…I can get well above 4k Block as a Pelt1. (Screenshot not available, but you can test it yourself.)
There comes to a point where you won’t be standing in one place to Guard against a mob. It certainly won’t help against magic mobs either. Extra damage is much appreciated in parties. This is especially true if the “tank” that has the mob aggro is also able to deal damage instead of sitting on their butt using Guard 24/7 with the occasional Swash to refresh Provoke. Lategame scenario is also really harsh on “tanks” that can’t pull and kite mobs properly.
Off topic reminder: Provoke = Swordsman 1’s attribute Provoke. Please level the attribute to 10 to be an effective “tank.” Nobody wants a Pelt3 with Swash Buckling 15 if their Provoke attribute is only Lv1. It’s why you see mobs getting pulled away from the “tank” whenever the DPS go ham on the mobs. Getting real tired of people thinking Swash Buckling is all they need to “Provoke” and calling the skill itself “Provoke.”
