Cataphract build, some doubts

I’m building a cataphract now, but I have no experience with tanky builds, so here are a few questions:

  • Is there a huge diference in damage from 1 hand to two handed spears?
  • How well will the hoplite skills scale?
  • Is it possible to solo mob later in the game with a 2H spear?

I’m thinking of going swordsman > peltasta > hoplite > cataphract x3, but I have doubts to how useful the hoplite skills can be later in the game. If I chose barbarian instead of hoplite I’d hava a useful stun for bosses and be able to use 2H spears much more often, and even if most skills were useless, I’d still have the stun. I just worry a bit about being too weak for mobbing without a shield, as well as wasting my peltasta skills, which need a shield to work.

I worry about stats a bit too, would I need a lot more CON to mob with a 2H? Wouldn’t it reduce the demage (for the lack of STR) enough to make 2H useless?

PS: It’s a PVE/boss build.

I’m a cataphract lvl 95 (not the highest lvl). I went sword>sword 2>hoplite>cataphract.
I went sword 2 because of the Restrain (pretty strong).
On the Hoplite route, you will have a little bit of trouble, but after you get to cata, it will be a lot better. 2h spears do a lot more damage. Don’t worry about tanking, the lack of shield made no difference for me. You’ll only be able to mob if you go on a full defensive build.

About the hoplite, finestra is pretty strong. So is stabbing. The other 2 are pretty bad.

Does restrain work on bosses?

im lvl 95 cataphract with sword c3 > cat build. yes there is a huge difference in damage between 1h and 2h spear. in my experience, soloing boss or mob with cat really easy but depends on your build tho. im full dex btw

Yeah, so it seems I don’t have much of a choice, then. I was thinking swash buckling + rush would be one hell of a combo, but since that doesn’t seem to be an option, I’d have to go swordsman > swordsman > hoplite. Damn, that’ll be a pain to level.

Imo swash+mount alone is enough for pve and pulling. I haven’t felt the need of extra movement speed in pve (lvl 80 here). In party you can put on shield and utilised block for tanking or switch 2h spear for dps. Still any choice is not bad for cata as their role(as developer said) is to wreak havoc
