Cataphract Bugs or Features?

I just want to know if the following are bugs or features.

This mainly concerns the Rush skill.

  1. Does Rush drain SP during its use?
    One L5 rush and my sp is down by 200.

  2. Is there a visual glitch sometimes where your spear just disappears from your head, but you still do damage? Or sometimes skill doesn’t even show up at all?

  3. Rush can be cancelled by an enemy attack.
    Even when I have pain barrier on, when I get knocked back by a spell like gust or an arrow, my skill stops. This is pretty annoying.

  4. Is Cata3 a dying breed?

This video might explain #1 and #2:

Rush is a Cataphract (Swordsman Rank 4) skill wherein the player twirls his spear overhead to hit enemies in range which should only last for 10 seconds at all skill levels.

However, as shown in the video the skill lasted for nearly a minute (a few seconds have passed already since the bug triggered and I started recording).

The player seems not able to use any other skills though nor jump, and appears to be stuck in animation yet still being able to move around and hit monsters with the skill.

You’ll also notice that his SP is still continually draining as well. He appears to be still able to consume potions though.

The Rush skill also appears to have not gone into cooldown, or perhaps it was on already on CD (40s, 58s w/ Stun attribute on) during the bug duration.

It seems the bug or visual glitch can be triggered by consuming a potion while in the middle of channeling Rush and it lasts until the skill’s cooldown reaches 0 (so you can recast it again). Perma-rush?

Yeah. XD Maybe it was an intentional counter, but good Archer players can really “abuse” this counter. You’ll have to catch them offguard (impale, or KD before Rush).

Everyone seems crazy about Fencers, Doppels and Murms these days. Cata still has a place in the PVP scene though but kinda requires at least decent investment to be effective especially against other more established players. Maybe when you’re geared BIS to the teeth with trans 10 Cata can be viable anywhere (like YugiMori of Telsiai who brought his/her Catagoon to complete Solmiki tower).

  2. Yes, it’s a bug that started happening in the last few months with one of the patches. Not really a big deal though…just a visual thing.
  3. Yes, pain barrier doesn’t really work against everything from what I find. It protects from knock back, knockdown, and stagger, but not pulls. I’m not sure if you can still get knocked by gust or arrow though…since pain barrier is supposed to protect you from those, for me pain barrier has protected me from those.
  4. I dunno, I still like my cata3 in PvP and PvE.

I think cata3 is one of the best classes in Swordsman, it’s a lot of fun and very powerful once you have transcended equip (the problem is its reliance on trans equip).

Thanks for the confirmations.
I use my cata3 as a very casual fun char just because it’s the mounted class and I like the movement speed. I think my char is an all-arounder as sw1-pelt1-hop1-cata3.

As for transcendence gears, looks like there’s no spot for my cata3 in the game as I refuse to be a shard farmer =.= (or a RMT whaler lol)

With regards to pain barrier not protecting from everything, I ran the new 170/old 140 dungeon and found that some of the mobs would stop me in my Rush with their skills. Maybe it’s an RNG stop? I’ll pay more attention the next time.

Looks like some knockback similar to Heavy Shot and Stone Shot IIRC.

Pain barrier is supposed to protect you from knockback, knock down, and stagger.
