Cataphract and dragoon skills hit count

Probably old news to many, but should clear up confusion for many people (as there are people who argue with me that dragon tooth do less than 5 hits at level 1 lol)

Summary:

  • Earth wave: 1 hit (number is a lie)
  • Doom spike: 1 hit (number is a lie)
  • Rush: 30 hits for full duration (3 hits/second)
  • Dragon tooth: 6 hits (1 more than I can count)
  • Serpentine: 7 hits (1 more than I can count)
  • Dragon soar: 5 hits (I thought this deals 3 only, better than expected)

Im not sure if other skills work this way, but i think some appear to be multiple hits, but are actually one hit… for example sadhu OOB attack looks like 3 hits, but its actually one hit that looks like 3 hits.

Maybe try adding some elemental gear and trying it on a mob… lets say you add an item with 30 elemental damage, if it adds 30 to each hit then it is a true multihit skill.

Or you can just find this boulder like me

There are real multi hit skills and there are fake multi hits. The only way to know is to test them all out.

1 easy way to determine if a skill is fake multi hit or not is to see when it crits. If all hits get yellow number at the same time, it is a fake multi hit skill.

So, the boulder lets you know if its real multihit or not? didnt know that. nvm then.

Because the boulder reduce all damage taken to 1, so each hit will only deal 1 damage, no matter what.

You can just look at the number of HP dropped by each skill and determine the number of hits.

Can you provide a damage video for dragoon skills, showing your patk and skill lvls ?

@edit: on a target with a known def value.

I can, but I’m at work right now so it will be a while

You can also calculate it yourself, it’s quite easy actually.

I have 1000 p.atk average. Dragon tooth add 477 atk per hit at level 1 so it’s just (1477 - monster def) * 6 hits, give or take

All dragoon skills does not have any other multiplier as far as I can see, unless dragon tooth suddenly becomes stronger at higher level.

I know this is not related to fake multi hit skills, but I will just ask since it seems you’re quite knowledgeable with catas’ skills hahaha
So, my question is if you have a charge skill like earth wave at lvl10, do you have to wait for the text to rise to lvl10 or you just release it when the bar is fully charge? I’m a C2 cata and my ping is very unstable, sometimes charging it from 1-2-3 then it quickly fills to 10 without showing 4-9 but sometimes it takes a whole 1-2-3 til 10 hahaha

I also have a bad ping, from my own testing you have to wait til it reaches 10 or it hits for the number its currently up to.

You have to wait for the text to rise to level 10. If you are charging slowly, try changing channel, some channels are slower than others

Lol for reference purposes. All dragoon skills are actual multi hit skills. They also get multi hit bonus from galin trident vs large mobs for example.

Earth wave and doom spike tend to hit for atk + skill attack - def ) on the original hit, and the 4 bonus hits on average tend to add up to the damage of the original hit, so you can expect 2x that damage in total.

I’m not sure about doom spike but I’m pretty sure earth wave have 2.65x multiplier in damage. That is added on top of 10% damage bonus of 2h spear as well.

2hand spear has block penetration, not damage bonus.
What are you refering to?

2h weapon have a hidden damage bonus, 2h sword and spear always have 10% bonus damage added on top.

can you please provide source?

Do you know if the fake hits still apply instances of restrain? I swear, my Earthwave is proc’ing restrain way more than 40%…

Earth wave is 2.5x it was a mistake of the tier bonus that detailed it as 2.65.
Since it was calculated with a 2h Spear and 1.1 x 2.5 = 2.75, deducing it that subtracting the 10% bonus from the 2.75 final result had it mistaken as 2.65x.

Some people can unpack the IPF file and read the code

It’s just an illusion, it’s still 40%. It will be less in PvP since people can resist

Nice, that might be the truth, but that’s even better since the scaling is higher
