if i unequip level 1 card, does it vanish? or does it stay at level 1? is level 0 a thing?

thx - have a lot of level 1 cards, was thinking of trying out different combinations before lvling em up for a good combo, but didn’t want to lose on unequip (like go from 1 to 0, and poof its gone!!! LOL)
