Profanity filters should ALWAYS be optional. They’re often awful anyways and censor the wrong words, like ToS’s filter.

The absolute weird thing is you could say ■■■ but not fagg0t. Technically if you’re going to be anal about your censoring, you’d cover both fronts.

I find censoring chat to be one of the most useless things however I fully understand the need for them as not everyone cares to see grown adults acting like children or children acting like well them self.

This wouldn’t be a problem if the censor didn’t pick up words which are within other words as curse words or block the full message and just block out the word that is a curse word. It’s very much a pain to have to retype something because a simple word like class,assassin or others which has a curse word within it’s text is shown as a curse word as it’s a word highly used within mmo games.

The worst thing is it’s really not blocking anything as people will just simply bypass the filter by adding random keys such as - key or placing a space. It would be more simply to let them make a fool of them self by typing in chat and the having people report them for flaming or harassment.

Solutions

  • Block only curse word and leave rest of the chat.
  • Have an checkbox to enable or disable profanity chat.

Funny how the censoring is actually doing the opposite effect for me.

I’m finding out new curse words that I didn’t even know existed before.

I tried writting “quimica” in portuguese, which means “chemistry”, and found out “quim” is actually a slang for vagina.

Thanks chat censoring.

If I had to give a realistic guess, it’s probably because their programmer just grabbed someone else’s barely functional chat filter code, copy pasted it into the game and said, “Good enough”. I wonder how many other things in this game have been handled that way…

You probably werent here in the beggining of founder’s access.

They did censor words like “mmotank” but the spammers just got around it by typing “mm0tank” for example.

IMC eventually gave up on it and just removed the RMT censor restrictions.
