Do you need a tank for bosses in this game? or is it just dps and run?
You can DPS and run for most content, but for instances (Dungeons and Party Missions), a tank who can draw aggro will make your life easier.
Enemies in instances have high attack and high HP, so unless you can block or have good defences, having a team member who can do this for you helps out a ton.
Nothing is stopping you from running content with 5 DPS roles though, or other roles like classes with heavy CC and a few DPS.
However, only thing I will mention is that there isnât strict roles depending how you build your class. A supportive Cleric can deal some great damage with some of their skills if they take them, a tank can also deal some great damage whilst tanking, and DPSes arenât limited to dealing damage only and can pick up some support skills.
Does that mean that paladin will not be able to tank since they come from the cleric branch?
You can create a Tanky Paladin. But in a party/raid/MvP, you wonât be able to tank because your DPS will take aggro away from you and you have no way to force aggro back onto your character.
Thatâs a little disappointing. Then theyâre stuck in a supportive role.
Well, they werenât really meant to be tanks, in this game at least. If you look at their skills, theyâre really more a support/dps type of class.
Yeah, I just went and looked at them. It reminds of the paladin from Ragnarok Online.
Peltastas are still going to be the main go-to tanks with the current skill set. Swash Buckling has a large AoE and can taunt several targets at once, not to mention the huge boost to defenses that is their Shield Block attribute.
Threat generation on other swordie classes is most likely only going to be useful for keeping small aggro, for example, leveling as a barb with a cleric friend following you around. You wonât have lots of dps competition, he is there for sustain, but you want to keep whatever you aggroed off him.
Any small party play that doesnât require a dedicated tank could just fill in a slot with a threat swordie, an off-tank so to say.
Something to keep in mind is attributes can be turned on/off. I assume this will hold true for this, as having it off will make the life of everyone in the party a whole lot easier.
Edit: just realized how long ago these were posted. Woops
@spoorek, as already mentioned they seem to be more support focused, but there have been people hoping for aggro skills on their tree. You never know, maybe they will get something in the futureâŚ
Paladins donât have much kit to play the tank role right now. Barrier, Resist Elements, thatâs about it.
But if things change, they could give this ability to paladins. âBlueâ classes from outside Swordsman tree are all underpowered now and need some reworks. They could become viable off-tanks, or with significant changes, maybe even main tanks. No problem giving them Provoke when that happens.
