Can someone explain the point of savagery to me?

Barbarian circle 1 skill.

Here is the korean description:
버프가 유지되는 동안 {#DD5500}{ol}[찌르기]{/}{/}속성 공격에 연타 보너스가 추가됩니다.

Here is the english description
While the buff is activated, addtional bonus is applied to {#DD5500}{ol}[Sting]{/}{/} attack.

Here is an album of screenshots of the swordsman skill thrust being used on a bugged boss, 9 used without savagery buff active, 9 used with savagery active: http://imgur.com/a/EFfcU

Average damage before savagery: 635

Average damage (summed) after savagery: 660

Is this buff really meant to be so miniscule? 9 isn’t a good sample size, but the bugged boss wouldn’t stay alive for me :frowning: Anyway I’m just kind of disappointed. I had all these plans to make my auto attack build with savagery drastically increasing my damage, but it’s barely a 5% increase, if that. Is the double hit good for something I’m not aware off?

interested to know also

It seems if you had a skill or a weapon that would cause you to do extra damage on a per-hit basis, this would come in handy. Also, more hits might increase accuracy in the short term as opposed to slow and strong hits. Otherwise… I’m not sure.

Yeah the skill simulator video is misleading, I saw people using it on streams and it didn’t apply to normal attacks…I presume it only applies to Slash skills and there aren’t many Slash skills around…
In fact the players didn’t bother using this buff much in the end, waste of space to be honest

Normal Savagery only applies to stab attack unless u havent upgraded your slash savagery attribute.

@Toaster

You raise an interesting point with the extra damage on per-hit. The Swordsman skill concentration does that. I believe the priest “bless” skill also adds damage on hit.

I did some further testing and you’re right, there are two “on-hit” procs when that happens. So that’s something.

Concentration has a limited number of hits duration so that’s less exciting (it does the same amount of damage, just uses it up twice as fast), but blessing is a duration spell. Guess I need to find a priest to party with once i hit cataphract… why does looking for a priest to party with feel so familiar =P

Hah… glad my guess was right. I still don’t think we’re using this skill correctly. Either it is bugged, or it has a specific synergy later on. I doubt they would make you party with a priest to make a single skill useful.

Keep us posted. :+1:

Ok thanks to last night’s double xp event I was able to achieve cataphract and do some more thorough testing. The results are disappointing.

I suppose first off I should point out that savagery does apply to auto attacks with a spear as well as piercing skills.

Here is the way I set up my tests:

Me level 83 cataphract hitting level 77 hogma scouts (weak to piercing damage). I recorded 10 auto attacks each with all 4 conditions: With/without concentration (my concentration gives +55 damage right now) and with/without savagery.

With concentration, with savagery, 10 hit average: 518 per hit
Without concentration, with savagery, 10 hit average: 471 per hit
With concentration, without savagery, 10 hit average: 515 per hit
Without concentration, without savagery, 10 hit average: 450 per hit

So even though the +55 concentration damage is displayed twice, it is clearly only being applied to the damage once. Also savagery appears to be absolutely no net gain in damage. I am tremendously disappointed. I have no idea what the point of this skill is.

Probably bugged and should be reported

I also stumbled upon this problem with my swordsman / barbarian I miss-skilled my char, before I noticed…, Savagery got totally changed I guess.

If you take the english translation from the “new” skill at kr CBT3 (yes I’m also testing atm) , it states that it adds more piercing/stab damage to the THRUST ability from Swordsman-Class. It does not apply to auto-attacks anymore, just buffs the piercing / stab DMG from Thrust.
They needed to nerf Barbarians, I guess thats the way they did it.

Or it’s broken, just like my Dievdirby statues, which just won’t appear after casting (a little off topic…)

Savagery with normal attack did not work in CBT 1 and 2. They fixed it in CBT3 and now it should work normally with stab attacks but as u said Buddhist savagery was very powerfull in CBT2 because it gave double attack for Melee skills that uses stab… SO maybe they nerfed damage because of that… Nerf Should apply for stab skill and not normal attacks…

Savagery is mostly designed for Corsair Sub Weapon cancel skill.

Savagery does work for normal attacks, but only if you’re using a spear.

I’m ok with that, but my problem is that it doesn’t do anything useful.

It takes a 100 damage attack and makes it 70/30 or 60/40. No damage increase. No double application of on-hit procs. It’s a pointless skill. Investing more skill points does nothing but increase the duration. Great i guess? So it can be a useless buff on my buff bar for longer? I don’t speak korean so I can’t really submit a bug report, but I’ll be submitting the report like crazy when english beta starts tomorrow.

I mentioned it to one of the bilingual koreans I’ve met and he told me to calm down and enjoy beta lol

I really don’t like dealing with these way too chill people…

just wait for iCBT then and report it again after the test xD lel.

but thanks for explaining though… I got it now… must have been braindead yesterday as I misthought stab attacks do only proc using the Thrust Skill…

another helpful thread I found about this: Update on Savagery and how it works
