Can Corsair be synergistic with Doppelsoeldner?

Hey guys - I’m fairly new to the game (started 3 days ago), and I’ve been doing research on the Swordsman class. I guess it’s important to note that I’m not interested in PvP at all.

I digress - I’m interested in the Corsair class - mainly because of Keel Hauling (it looks so cool!), but I’m also interested in the Doppelsoeldner class. However, many Doppelsoeldner skills require a 2H Sword, and the Corsair skill “Dust Devil” doesn’t seem to allow for that.

As such, is there any way for the Corsair and Doppelsoeldner to be synergistic, or will Dust Devil simply be unusable?

I was thinking about
Swordsman > Highlander > Barbarian > Barbarian > Corsair > Doppelsoeldner > Doppelsoeldner
as a class line - does this make sense?

Also, I guess more broadly - if I’m interested in the Corsair class, are there other potential class lines I could take?

Corsair not the greatest class. Double assault weapon take stamina plus you have to click two buttons in right time to get decent atack speed, otherwise your character will stop attacking.

Keel Hauling is the worst skill ever as it breaks stun that is produced by iron hook. Even if it didn’t - still no use for it in PvE rly.

I’d say Corsair is very much a PvP profession - no AoE at all, which you need for grind. Still, it has one of the best target bursts that are available for swordsman class… not that it really matters anywhere aside from bosses rly (I’m 278 Sw2-Hop2-Cor3).

Corsair requires to use 1H + dagger, but can be used with doppel as Doppel c2 skills don’t really matter, as what you really need most from Doppel class is Cyclone and Deeds of Valor - and they dont require specific weapon.

Still, if you really intend to have both doppel and corsair: Sw1-Pelt1-Hop2-Cor2-Doppel1. A decent spear build, but it’ll become rly lackluster when Barbarian buffs hit iTos (vulnerability to Slash dmg from cleave -> double Cyclone dmg, which will be your main dmg skill when you reach doppel). It’s basically your typical target-burst corsair + doppel added just for the sake of AoE (which is really important for PvE builds).

If you just want pure PvE doppel: Sw1-Pelt1-Barb3-Doppel2. It may use both 2H and 1H + dagger/shield, but can only use Swashbuckling with 1H+dagger/shield. Your typical rotation will be Swashbuckling->WarCry->Cyclone. Plus Cleave after patch.

And for christ’s sake, don’t take Highlander c1. Even if u intend to go 2H sword. Take Peltasta c1. Trust me, nothing is better for swordie in PvE.

If you take Pelt instead of Highlander for your build, it’s ok too, just… kinda pointless. You don’t need corsair in pure PvE build. Corsair is for PvP.

PS. Yeah, and you don’t need Dual Weapon Assault. At all.

Corsair probably is the best class for material hunting. With only 3 days as Corsair I was able to get 2 Accuracy XBow Recipe, 1 Silver Falchion Recipe, 1 Health Stone Recipe and a lot of materials only by the Pillage passive of Jolly Roger. That’s really amazing.

By now my build is Sword 1, Pelta 3 (More monsters lure by the taunt  ), Corsair 1. Think if I go with Corsair 3 or Corsair 2 , Dopp 1.

why would you need to lure so many monsters?

Pelta 1 is already good, so why pelta 3? you could get more DPS with hoplite 2 :frowning:

Well, i like to play with pelta c2 and c3 skills. Anyway, im doing this char only for material hunting.

Laziness

right. that does make perfect sense actually.

Ehhhh Circle 1 Corsair is useful.

My opinion on skills:

Jolly Roger - Awesome farming utility (at level 5), good damage combo buff when you’re leader of the party, okay for a party of Corsairs with an attribute (level 2 at least, but this is negligible), and can even pull aggro.

Iron Hook - Great for PvP, has little to no PvE use as you can only combo Keel Hauling with it with the 3 chain attribute toggled off. Doesn’t work on bosses either.

Keel Hauling - Should just be taken at level 1 for utility and bleeding in PvP. The damage is pretty bad and you’d get more use from more levels of Iron Hook because at level 4, 7 seconds of capture is better than 3 at level 1. Your team mates can either go ham or you can Keel Haul > follow up skills. Barbarian syncs nice with the ability to stun characters further once you reel them in.

Dust Devil - A nice, small ranged, circular AoE. You will do more damage to which ever character you are facing when you finish the skill. I think it’s a little under rated honestly as it does a nice bit of damage at level 5 even. However it’s nothing compared to big AoE’s other classes provide for big grinding parties.

Unlock Chest - Useless unless you have a lot of keys and you plan to reset your skills later. Good for one time silver.

If taken at C1, it’s more about utility than damage. C2 is great for auto attacks, Hexen Dropper also being a small burst. That doesn’t play into your build however and of course Dopple>Dopple is better. So if you plan to PvP at all, not a bad choice.

Jolly Roger is a big mystery with the pillage passive. Based on my experience each level probably increase 1% chance of steal an item or silver, and silver some times is only 5 other times 300-500.

I couldn’t give you percentages, but it does help things drop at a faster rate I’ve found, and extra silver proccing happens a ton. I can say the more hits you do, the more likely you are to have an extra drop. So if you’re farming like say, a recipe, just auto attacking the same monsters repeatedly will get an item to drop faster than if you were to hulk smash them all at once with Seism. It also helps more with my class because I’m a Fencer, my skills have a few more hits to them and I use one with 0 CD.

I know, i made a test with jolly roger lvl 1 - lv 5, and i can say lvl 1 basically do nothing besides the team combo. When i get circle 2 will able to say more about the levels, but by now the skill is really amazing. The only downside is you can pillage a monster one time only :sob:

Well gathering as many up as you can handle helps, that way you have a higher chance to pillage two, three… xD But yeah I get what you’re saying.

I’m undecided when I hit Rank 7 whether or not to pump up more Jolly Roger or DD. DD I say again is pretty under rated, it does some nice damage, but that Jolly Roger… /slur!

i can see a corsair / doppel being a pretty rich person . Jolly Roger kind of reminds me of the auto steal ability rogue had in RO and is just as useful for gaining extra loot . When I was levelling at 200 with level 10 I was getting a lot of extra items . Goblin tokens drop was massively low compared to how many I had gained from Jolly Roger when comparing how many had dropped in the logbook and how many I happened to have in my inventory . Then on doppelsoelder side you have double pay earn . Bit of extra loot and exp is always handy even if it only lasts a few hits . Save it for a rare enemy and see how nice all that extra loot is

Well if u think more damage, pvp, boss fight, etc go with dd c2 if u wnat use 2h sword. My purpose with corsair is grab recipes and materials.

Mhmm C1 is just great utility. I also forgot about Double Pay Earn on Dopple. Money everywhere.

And if we use DPE on a golden one?
