Bow vs Crossbow options

So. Is it just me as an old returning player or are these still lacking equivalent power?

It was always complained about in the past, the 2H bows were just not as good as the crossbows.

Now there are some pretty nice ones, but, in a meta where gems have taken over there just isn’t any sense at all in taking the current 2H bows compared to the crossbows because you get an offhand you can slot gems with.

So here’s a thought: Can the 2H weapons have more gem slots than the 1H weapons? This could greatly improve them as potential choices.

I heavily prefer the aesthetic of the 2H bows. They’re just nicer to look at. The problem is that I can’t really justify using them at all.

Am I missing something?

Play Mergen :stuck_out_tongue:
/20chars

:expressionless: that increases the amount of questions instead of reducing them :confused:

Why? :o
All mergen skills are 2-H bow only.

It’s not always true.

2h bow always perform better when fighting fyling units (not sure if this will gone after changes) unless the difference is so obvious

Besides the bonus against flying types, 2H bows naturally have higher base damage than the xbows in the same required level range. This means that transcending bows will yield a very much higher pAtk boost which means more skill damage (due to multipliers).

There are exceptions though:

  1. Your build mostly relies or performs best on using an offhand or a specific xbow type (QS, Rogue2/3, SR, Hacka)

  2. Non-Mergen PVP builds favor using a shield due to pDef and mDef boost

  3. Personal preference (e.g. aesthetic, team-sharing [if not transcended], don’t have time to farm for alt/switch weapon)

It’s usually an “end game” decision. As you level, you’ll want to switch between an xbow+offhand and a 2h bow depending on the situation.

before r8 , 2h bow is better than 1h bow.
after r8 , 2h bow is on par sometimes weaker than 1h bow + aspana / purple gun. it still depends on a lot factor, mobs type, ur budget ( 1 weap definitely easier to invest thant 2 weap) , class , orange? etc etc

Naturally higher base damage doesn’t really matter if you can’t have an offhand weapon with 3 red gems.

Comparison using only 2 practonium.

Aufgowle Bow
781+
bonus 246+
2gems(lv5) 220
Total = 1247 Max patk

Vs

Astra Bow
892+
3gems(lv5) 330
Total = 1222

Vs

Silver Hawk + Blood Stealer

555+
211bonus+
5gems(lv5) 550
Total = 1316

The gems here are the key point I’m trying to get at. Gems make the crossbows+offhand a higher patk when comparing equivalent weapons the majority of the time.

Maybe it would be nice for equipment to get some uniqueness from the future attack speed changes? 2handeds could be buffed strong but attack slower. 1 handeds could attack faster. Doesn’t quite make sense for crossbows which are traditionally slower than bows but it’s a game.

EDIT: I’ve only just fully read you comment. You’re right, when you throw transcendence into the mix that changes things considerably. I was only looking at things unmodified on paper. Seems I WAS missing something.

Final comparison after Transcendence put Aufgowle at 2028 and SilverHawk/BloodShooter at 1871. I think. Unless anything else is affected by transcendence that I’ve forgotten in my absence.

they are 2 socket each, which total 4 socket only. and lv5 red gem at main weapon is 180 max patk. practonium are RNG and orange material atm are almost impossible to farm.

Good spot on that error! I was originally looking at the Regard Horn and the Asgard Pistol and may have confused the sockets a little. I switched things around after realising Practonium numbers were… Impractical.

Also, to add a bit on this discussion, it’s pretty much like @ZeroFoxGiven said. But there’s another detail.

Almost all classes, because Rank 8 choices, will end in some of these:

  • Mergen: 2H Bow
  • Musketeer (C2): Musket
  • Hackapell: 1H XBow + max socket offhand [sword seems to not affect skills ?]
  • Cannoneer (C2): 1H XBow + Cannon [2 weapons to invest on]
  • Falconer (C3): Can use both, I’d recommend going with 2H Bow, especially if your build uses Hunter->Falconer for even more bonus against flying.
  • SR (C2-C3): 1H XBow + Pistol [2 weapons to invest on]

So you’re basically locked on the R8/end-game choice on most common builds, aside from Falconer. In this case, DPS wise, I’d go with 2H Bow whenever you don’t depend on a offhand for your skills.

P.S.: Hunter->Falconer bonuses against flying might be lower after combat changes.

Cannoneer can use a 2h-bow and a cannon as long as weapon swap attribute is in effect.

Game will auto-switch to cannon when you use a cannon skill, and then switch back to bow.

that is the same as musketeer can use 2hbow/xbow+shield and rifle because of auto weapon swap, wont there be a lag?

Playing Mergen = bow in quickswap for Mergen skills, crossbow + offhand for everything else.
