BOTS out of control, overruned the whole servers

captcha and second password systems won’t work. I wrote a post about this already but to summarize it: It’s too easy for a bot to break through captchas and even question-based captchas.

There’s also captcha libraries for botters to download and use where they try to find a match in the library with what’s being shown to them on screen. If this game did put in a captcha it wouldn’t stop bots and the players, once again, will have a new game element that annoys the players and the botters/RMTers will keep botting and RMTing.

I know I made a post talking about how we should try to limit the amount of bots in the game but captcha has been proving time and time again to not stop bots anymore.

This is basically one of many articles you can find on the subject with a quick Google search.

I am aware of that. I just gave out two of the most common examples I could think of. My point is that they should have some kind of automated system in place to control the number of bots. There are many MMOs and not all of them have bot problems as severe as this. The devs could take a page from those specific MMOs and perhaps use the same methods.

It’s usually those generic cash-grab KMMOs whose devs don’t give a ■■■■ that have this problem, and I don’t want this MMO to end up like those, because it’s awesome in a lot of ways(great art, great soundtrack, class system with a lot of potential)

Don’t get me wrong, I do agree with you. But dealing with bots on a case by case basis is just way too inefficient.

As soon as the game opens to new players, there will be a massive influx of bots and that will be greatly detrimental to the game in the long run. They need to put a system in place against bots before they do this.

Why are you telling me this? I need not to know more, Preach the OP.

I just pointed out to him/her this is how the real world goes, well the MMORPG world to be exact.

It’s true. When the game does open again we are going to see a ridiculous amount of bots. I do see a trend in games where buyers of silver/gold/gil/whatever never get banned though.

I remember mentioning this on the FFXIV forums but ya know, that place is full of retards who can only use .0005% of their brains. But consider this:

What if a game developer, instead of banning bots and RMTers, tracks down proven bots and RMTers and puts them on a secret watch list. Every time they make a transaction that, after investigation, is proven to be related to RMT, the buyer of the game currency is banned.

Start attacking the buyers and the sellers disappear. As long as you’ve got a proper investigation system in place you shouldn’t be banning people falsely anyways. Make people afraid to buy.

The only argument I’ve seen against this is literally, “Ban paying customers is bad for business!!!” Whatever… them buying RMT is bad for business anyways.

Bots ruins the economy.
dead economy = terrible game

Actually this is part of the strongest way to counter bots:
F2P = bot game with some players.
B2P with a full games starting price AND NO bonus included means every single bot would have to regain that price before its making profit, now add attacking the buyers instead of the bots as a first step ingame -> bots will make less profit and less profit because PLAYERS dont want bans.

While I do agree, IMC doesn’t seem to willing to spend much resources on that(and I haven’t seen an MMO developer actually attempt to do that) so I guess the next best thing is attacking their medium, their way of doing pretty much everything like advertising their sites/collecting ingame money/etc, which are bots.

By controlling the influx of bots they can at least limit the impact of RMTs on the game.

edit: now that you mention it i do remember some mmo where there are actually GMs ingame who investigate RMTs and ban the players who partake in them.

Hey Where can I buy those bots as It is apparently legal to use them?

hopefully they’re also deleting all the money the bots have already moved around. not really sure how it works.

Eh on orsha i dont think its 5 bots to every perspn maybe 1 bot for every 2 people we dont have a whole lote of bots on our server i mean we do but not like a lot of yous guys describe it on your servers. So doesnt bother me a whole lot plus o played RO for a decade with easily a 10-1 bot to human ratio. You will learn to accept it or quit sadly. The bots will never go anyways in a f2p game

I’m just kinda wtfing over here at Snowdance. I don’t recognize the other two names but wowzers.

Rather case in point botter restrictions are not working on a grand scale. That’s a lot of RMT cash back for a single, well known bot.

I really don’t understand how Snowdance is evading a ban though. It must mean that IMC is only capable of banning ‘obvious’ bots and Snowdance knows exactly how to trick IMC’s investigation.

See games like WoW had anti-bot detection software running and it greatly removes a lot of retarded bot users but there’s always advanced and highly crafty bot users who know how to work the system.

Snowdance is one of those.

I would give them more leeway if there wasn’t the Snowdance threads and I’m sure a couple of tickets by those with pitchforks for her. A little ridiculous.

When are we gonna start a new thread dedicate to her? Or Snowdance fanclub for that matter XD

I elect @thebatotot as iToS chapter president. I will distribute pitchforks, you can bring the torches.

Staff must seek and attack high stacks of gold.

¿Can anyone enlight me on how bots transfer gold to players if gold trade is restricted? thanks.

Player puts items up for sale, RMTer buys the items. Player receives the money 48 hours later. Sooper dooper easy to do.

Trade restrictions - Annoying for players, RMTers don’t give a crap either way lol.

Thanks. Im realising that this is not a easy task at all, maybe I talked bullshit when I said that IMC is involved with bots business and I apologize for that. But im still angry to see nothing else in game fields but bots.
