[Bot problem] The only way to defeat bots isn't to hinder them, but to take away their clients

Hello everyone.

I’m here to talk about the RMT problem : bots farming silvers then spamming their gold-selling websites for people to buy in-game money with real-world money.

Here’s a fact : EVERY restriction you can come up with is gonna hinder actual players more than bots. Forbid trade ? Bots just launder their money through Dilgele and now the resource is out of price in AH for alchemists to buy.
72-hour delay after account creation to put something in AH ? Gets new players to leave while bots can just wait it up on safe accounts.
Every restriction you can come up with will get bots to adapt and actual players to leave.

Instead, take away their clients by setting up the TP shop and put tradable items in there. I’m NOT talking about any kind of overpowered bonus you could get only by spending money in the game, but rather things like :

  • Tradable token
  • Tradable Skill & Stat reset potions
  • Tradable cosmetic skins (hair costumes, overall costumes, etc.)

If you want a full control over these exchanges, you could do so these are only tradable through AH at a fixed price, like you’d done with tokens. I’m not sure this part is a good idea though, to be discussed.

Tldr : as long as gold sellers have a considerable profit in the game, no restriction will get them to leave. I can’t say the same for actual players. Though, a TP shop could be a way to actually bother bots whilst providing daddy’s boys a way to get money in game.

i’ve pondered the bot problem for awhile, I’ve played games like ddo where you never think about bots and as far as I’m concerned they don’t exist.

why do bots control this game while that one they are not even present.

my conclusion is that the game isn’t designed around solo grind play, the gameplay is intricate, and thoughtful it’s possible imo to bot that game, but you’d need to write scripts for a bot party to do every single quest, ad at the end of the day the loot system is designed with the best stuff at the end game where the game play is the hardest where quite honestly bots just can’t compete.

imo it’s a testament to the gameplay being far to simplistic that allows bots to exist.
