Bot Handling Suggestion

Why not create an invincible monster in every map spawn?

  1. Create 1 or a few invincible monsters in map.
  2. Maybe can make these invincible monsters last for 10-30 mins then disappear and respawn again in random location on map

effects:

  1. Because monster is invincible, human players will avoid it
  2. Bots will continue to keep on atking it with “miss, Miss, Miss” hits

conclusion:
Pros:

  1. Its easy to see who are bots and who are not bots.
  2. Its good method to slow bot damage on economy.

Cons:
1, Maybe IMC find it difficult to implement
2. Maybe Bots still can bypass and detect invincible monsters.

It’s a solid idea, but it would be fairly easy for the bots to detect the invincible monsters and just not attack them.

There’s only one way to really deal with bots, and that is a functional report system. You report a player and it should either ring an active GM (which should be around most of the time) or it will start logging the player’s activity. Perhaps a captcha will pop up , somewhere out of the way, that they have 5 minutes to enter. You need a large time frame on it to prevent abuse, unfortunately. I have played other games with reporting features that were far too easy to abuse, and it is a way worse alternative to bots.

Bots can dicern their targets. they’re not as dumb as “attack anything in my sight”. I’m not sure how the bots for ToS work but for other games they can select only a certain mob by checking their name or the mob’s ID if they have access to it (so you can’t even create decoys with same names).

Bot report function does not solve botting problem. It only lessens the issue. Right now the game is pay to play but once it goes free there will be thousands of bots coming in through the door and for every bot you get to check and report there will be 10 more being created during the same time.

The first bots might fall for a trap like that but once people realize how the system works they’ll just adapt their bots to get around it.

just to mention; the “report bot” button is in already. (happened during the tuesday patch.)

I saw that; thank you very much! I hope to help clean up the in game community! I would love to see a report racism/xenophobia button soon as well, but that’s an entirely different issue.

How about make a dummy same name as monster and spawn a lot of them. I’m sure bots doesn’t know which one is real.

I love to quote myself. I quote myself irl sometimes.

Me too ^^

Baiting bots into certain decoys doesn’t really work.

Maybe the first bots will fall for it but after a while the bot makers will just figure out a way around it and the bots will adapt, ignoring the decoys.

Then the devs will have to change the decoys again to make bots fall for it again.

Then the botters will adapt again.

It’s an endless fight.

The real weakness that causes a lot of botting is because of the targeting system that is in place and the fact that you can make a macro just to press tab + autoattack /repeat at the simplest form not to mention a more complex bot.

I played Tera briefly and that game had no bots at all because

  1. it used live action combat instead of targeting, sort of like an FPS built into an mmo
  2. the game sucks so nobody bothers
