Best way to enchance a gem

Hi guys.
So, I’m a new player and I’ve gathered several gems since I’ve started to play last week… but now my storage is full and I don’t know what to do with them since I don’t have socket in my equipment.

Should I use all the red ones to “feed” only one single red?
I have all 4 colors, but I only play physical characters (since ever)… and looks like the red one is the best.

I’ve also saw that there is a class that can improve gems, is that right?

you can use the materials to lvl up gems, or use gem abrasives from quest or cubes, or do the gimmick quest to get gem abrasives.

you must be talking about gem roasting, which is to erase the negatives of the said gem before putting it into a slot
