Best tank setup?

I was thinking I’d try making a tank in this game, but I don’t really know what’s ideal for purely tanking.

I’m also not really sure about what all to do for stats so any advice would be appreciated so I don’t just mess the character all up as I’m sure I probably did on my first character.

Tanking is a good idea if you have people to tank for friends or guildies you trust and like. Your equipment will always have the trouble disrepair.

But Tanking in ToS is not the same as MOBA and other MMO. At the moment ToS only focuses on DPS and Support. IMC forgot tanks are suppose to have a key role in MMORPG. They are just auxiliary in ToS for now. As Crowd Control magic is a more favorable option.

Maybe in the future IMC would remember that the holy trinity tradition in MMORPG: Tank, DPS, Support.

Otherwise take a masochist mindset.

*magic cannot be blocked or miss thus eliminating the need to invest stats on accuracy and penetration.

At the moment if you still insist on tanking you have to abandon the mindset of a Pure Tank as currently there is no need for such build. Thus you should make a Off-Tank and experience the game better or play another character and wait for IMC to change their mindset to make Tanks needed again.

Just a heads up a datamined class called Matador class might be a key class for tanking. Matador are bullfighters in Spain.

A friend of mine has a pelt/rode/murmillo build that works amazing in ET <3, since im a mage i actually feel like im missing a part of me when he’s not around lol, sure cryomancers can stack mobs into one place too but murmillo does pretty ok as “tank” as it is RN

Do you know if his or her build is full str?

I’m not sure what kind of stats I should be looking at now.

pelt3rod3murmillo

good tank, good single target burst(need huge investment)

I recently made a tanking build, if you would like to check it out. I put a lot of theorycrafting into it, and have even played it myself up to rank 8 and love it.

I feel like Hoplite 3 is a lot tankier than Rodelero 3. Just having Finestra lv 15 and High Guard 10 already puts you in 90% block chance for pvm without any need for gears / CON. Add Nuaele cards and good gear to that and you’ll be pretty immortal in pvm.

Rodeleros don’t really have any defensive skills aside from Slithering magic immunity but you can’t be attacking with it so it’s not reliable. I have played both Rodelero 3 and Hoplite 3 Murmillo builds and I feel like Rodelero is a great choice but much more offensively oriented.

I am interested with this. But won’t the stance get cancelled each other?

They don’t really cancel eachother.

I’m trying to figure out the actual block rate by recording videos and statistically checking what my actual block rate is. Truth be told, It’s not really 90% but more around 70~80%.

cool. But this is gonna be a 1H spear for weapon choice isn’t it?
so it will be Sw - Pelt 3 - Hop 3 - Murmillo

most likely will need 10x gorgon card for pain barrier

Gorgon? Pain barrier is Gazing Golem, but I found Nuaeles to be much better if you’re looking to tank (and much more expensive, of course).

Yes, 1h spear is the weapon of choice.

So far my tests were these (against Rhodedoe monster):

876 Block Rate using lv 15 Finestra + lv 10 High Guard:

  • 61 Hits blocked, 26 hits taken. Block Rate = ~70%

1426 Block Rate using Lv 15 Finestra + lv 10 High Guard + Guard (C button):

  • 63 Hits blocked, 11 hits taken. Block Rate = ~85%

I’m pretty sure at this point that either there’s a block rate cap around 85%~90% or the block rate formula IMC provided us with is wrong.

The formula they provided us with is Block Rate = max(block - enemy block penetration) ^ 0.7
So, to have ~70% block rate at 876 block the monster would need to have around 450 block penetration. However, testing it further, with < 400 block I can still get blocks every now and then, which means the monster can’t possibly have all that block penetration…

EDIT:
Ok, tested with 1176 Block and I still get 85% block rate. I’m also able to block at only 109 block (took more than 500 hits to get 2 blocks) which means Rhodedoe’s block pen is indeed less than 109.

I’m pretty sure there is a cap at 85% block rate and the formula is swapped with the evasion formula . It makes perfect sense if the formula is ^0.65 instead of ^0.7 and mob has ~100 block pen.

No. Tanks are not supposed to have a key role in anything. If at all, Tanks are actively destroying action based combat due to their ability to draw aggro and allowing other players to ditch a lot of mechanics and avoid a lot of damage.

That’s just tad boring and non-intuitive brain afking-gameplay.
If it goes that way, there will be enforced wiping/high damage AoE mechanics following, which makes gameplay linear like e.g. Dragon Nest and stupid[as others play the game for you basically].

No thanks. It’s good that TOS took another approach and made solo-tanking viable via block&dodge mechanics while providing some Classes with more defensive options (e.g. Pelatasta/Paladin). This allows you to have a Tank-feeling while not robbing others of their gaming experience.

Thats the point of a Tank is to draw aggro, it always has been by Tradition.

But that has no place in semi-action or action based combat.

It’s making the game boring for everyone else as they don’t get targeted by the monsters and go brainafk rolling their face over the keyboard.

It’s good that TOS doesn’t have a focus on traditional game settings which enforce certain “roles” on certain Classes/builds/whatever. It’s more fun to take some hits to the face in TOS than having to hide behind a tank in games like DN not to bite the dust in 1-2 hits.

it does, when was the last time you played a mage that cannot cast a spell?

there are many tanks build since most of it are balanced. take in mind something the only one char that make you a tank its peltasta, so all builds should be Swordman>Peltasta C3 and the others 3 classes are for support or damage. Rodelero its a damage class, so wont be “im doing 10K damage to all mob” but… now the real tank build is Swordman > Peltasta C3 > Squire C3 > Murmillo why? because since you are a tank u got lot of hits and ur durability will drop fast, as squire u will repair yourself and keep “tanking” u can chose a damage oriented tank, but that is up to you.

The best mobbing tank setup is Cryo3 Chrono 3.

The best boss tank is maxed safetywall or pain barrier with auserine/revive/mack with the highest burst.
