Best Melee Burst Damage class?

Completely new to ToS, would love some insights.

pick swordsman :video_game:

It’s kinda hard to tell cause it varies on your preference and playstyle
You won’t be able to play a burst class build effectively if it doesn’t work for your style so if I were you I’ll search around the forums for some build topics that have already come and gone in order to see which you will give a try this coming iCBT2. There will most likely be a data wipe after the beta so yeah just give some stuff a try as you will have plenty of time within the 1 month span of the beta.

Probably Highlander > Barb.

Cartar Stroke and Seism.

Every burst you need is in Barb tree. Or you can pick Hoplite for better burst using Pierce which is effective against bosses and Stabbing.

yes I typically enjoy playing glass cannon, bursty melee classes with high mobility, Get-in-Get-out type of class.

Sounds like you want a Fencer.

Monk is an alternative for high number damage skills but I don’t think it can get-in-get-out.

:mushroom: Sadhu ^^ :mushroom: And I’m not even joking xD :mushroom:

Traditional melee burst DPS is done with a swordsman. Here is an example and build primer:

Equipment: Rapier + Shield
Stats: STR + DEX (evasion, phys damage, crit)

The above swordsman focuses on burst DPS instead of sustained DPS. Primary damage is caused by Cleave, which deals more damage thanks to Restrain. If Restrain doesn’t proc and you need to stun your enemy for Cleave, Helm Chopper does the trick. While Cleave is in cooldown, three excellent DPS skills from Fencer will keep your damage high, while simultaneously providing damage mitigation through dodging. Gung Ho, Frenzy, and Warcry bolster your damage even further.

However, perhaps you are looking for something less traditional:

Stats: DEX + SPR (splash CON for a bit of HP. SPR really helps with damage, essentially replacing STR due to Aspersion)

This isn’t the staple Monk build, but it is pretty close. There is a little more focus on maxing out attack buffs, and the main damage-oriented skills are one-trick ponies with medium to long cooldowns, but when this monk dishes out damage, it dishes it out hard.

Now we’re getting off the reservation:

Stats: STR + DEX (Splash CON for a bit of HP)

The trick is to stack damage on top of your auto-attack. This is done by using Fire Enchant, Flame Ground, and Fire Pillar. MATK is mostly secondary damage over time, while the primary focus is PATK. Quicken increases your attack speed, while Slow drops enemy movement, making it easier for you to drop spells on them prior to poking them to death. Hell Breath can open up some distance if you need it. Stop, Sleep, and your Freeze procs are all options for keeping your opponent locked down if you need time to prepare your next onslaught. While a lot of this damage is more like sustained DPS, it requires a set-up, and stacks into brief moments of high-damage assaults. I can’t say whether this build will work in an applied environment, but the theory behind it is cool, and I am sure it would be fun to test!

In the first build he’d have far more damage without a shield and with a second weapon instead. Not only because the other weapon provides damage - fencer has a mechanic where if you’re not using a shield your skills are stronger.

I like fencer a lot, reminds me of warrior from Tera.

i like fencer alot its like fencer in granado espada, like down to skill names and animation

Interesting. Is it an attribute? I was unaware of this ā€œno-shield buffā€ on fencer. Sounds cool.

Its 15% apparently, ask @karjalainen he/she/it knows more about fencers then I ever will I’m sure ^^

Maybe I should make a fencer? I could make other warriors cry and tell them only archers can beat me thus finishing my great work of persuading people to play archer class :mushroom:

I swear, I see you linking your builds in like 50% of the posts! you like a crazed salesman lol.

Ikr? I wouldnt mind if theyd be any good but damn :mushroom: :yum:

Hmm, that’s a decent amount of damage… suddenly, my interest in Fencers has grown slightly, and I was already interested!

I find it easier to copy and paste examples of what people are possibly looking for, rather than creating something new every time. Unless it calls for me to make a new build to pertain to one’s taste a bit more, but I’d need more information before doing that.

Oh I don’t have any problems with it. I am just browsing at peoples ideas and builds and just notice you always have a build posted =P.

When it comes to builds, it is good to take everything with a grain of salt. I like theory building, and every time I do it, I learn a little something new about in-game mechanics and their interactions with skills/attributes. While I could just sit at home with Excel and Word open, pumping out new builds all for myself, a lot of people are looking for build ideas. I try to bring them to the table.
