May it be swordie, archer, wizard, cleric
Lol, goodluck with that.
Didn’t need luck.
Been through a lot of dungeons because I don’t have time to solo much these days.
Been ignoring that one wizard or archer that stays at the edge of screen, or that one swordie who went away on his own, or that cleric who doesn’t do anything but cast heal tiles far away while the rest of the party mobbing is dying and I got to mass heal them.
They die, I don’t res them, we finish dungeon fast.
That’s actually one of the aspects that I like about the healing in this game. You do your job, drop heal tiles in the right places and that’s it. If they don’t run over the tiles themselves and instead panick like chickens then it’s on them. Can’t help people who don’t help themselves. Kinda forces players to take responsibility for their own actions instead of dying and blaming it on others all the time.
I really enjoy being a support character. I’m a c3 cleric, c1 paladin currently and since I’m only level 108, I consider myself to still be learning a lot of things. When I am with a party and we are clearing out the minions, I usually drop down my two heals nearby so that people can run to them when they need the healing. I also drop them both down so that I can cast them again quicker.
Something you might want to consider as well is that there is an attribute that has up to a 10% chance of healing you when you cast heal. I recommend that if you have this, turn it off if you find that you are not healing fast enough. The 3 seconds it adds to your cooldown can make a big difference.
In a boss fight, I will usually place my tiles to the left and right of where the boss is. Far enough away so that you don’t have to get too near the boss but also close enough so that you don’t have to go too far away from it in the case of melee and tankers. If the boss has a knockback attack that tends to hit folks, then I will try to place my healing tiles where they would land so that they don’t have to worry about both healing themselves and getting back to the boss.
There are plenty of other things you can do with other skills, but healing seems to be the most critical in my experience.
I definitely agree with your decision to place heal tiles near where people are going to be.
Also, that’s actually a really interesting build that I’ve never seen and am a fan of. What stat spread are you going?
I put most of my points into int to begin with. I started to see how close I was getting to dying in some dungeons so I started to put a few into con and also into spr. Currently I have a 142 int and 48’s in con and spr and that is at level 108. Eventually I think I’m going to continue to just put points into those 3 stats as needed. Not sure what I’ll end up with but most probably int will be my highest and I plan to keep con and spr about equal.
I hope this post doesn’t derail the thread.
Do I really need Mass Heal for higher lvl dungeons? I was a Cleric c3 on idCBT2 two days ago and I had 15+1 Heal tiles, 32 tiles per cooldown. I could only test 3 ranks until server was closed. Heh.
I don’t wanna pick Priest for the lvling phase would be horrible. I want something to reward myself affter the suffering I’ll be enduring that is Cleric 1-2-3. The plan is to go with mostly-int build, not spr as I don’t like to just stand there buffing people.
Would you rather have a Cleric with more buff less healing or more healing less buff? And if you have to choose between support Wizard and DPS cleric for the 5th slot in parties, what would you choose, and why?
Thanks! =)
No you don’t need Priest at all. Cleric2 is enough.
Cleric3 would be overkill even.
Some people do go full support like Cleric2/Priest3, but there’s never a need for mass heal.
OK, thanks, Acolyte. Are you from Prontera Parish?
Sooo correct me if I’m wrong: I can heal ~and~ deal damage at the same time without people judging me (?). You know, some people might want you to just be a nice, meek heal bot.
Hey dude, don’t you worry dungeon with random people will Always be a mess and chaotic. At DG90 I went with a few friends and we knew what we should do. DPS behind waiting for tank to push a few mobs, then we began to kill them, then he aggroed, while standing on safety zone.
I made a Tank character and saw how mess it can become when people do whatever they want. Everyone following me up close made me aggro a lot of monsters at same time, making it harder to survive, higher durability consuption and a lot of other problems ( like losing monsters aggro easier ).
With organization and strategy a healer’s job in this game is quite easy. ( I am not saying it is the easiest or that anyone can do it. )
ahaha I am one in real life so I ended up always using this nick after I learned about iRO
Yeah usually some people do prefer you to just stay quiet and put heal tiles. Especially party members who are used to soloing.
Though remember to make your heal tiles to not damage the enemy so they are not wasted.
But yeah most parties don’t complain much as long as you heal them.
Though some cleric branches can do more active role, in the end they will criticize you if they don’t feel like you’re healing enough
Cleric 3 might be an overkill. C2 with 11 tiles (22 titles total) is often sufficient in healing the team should the heals per tile are strong enough (for int based builds no problem at all).
Personally for a cleric if it is support build, more heals will be better than buffs. There are very limited buff slots and if one specs into too many buff spells…
- Limit the buffs other players bring to the table
- Most of the time is spent refreshing buffs other than dps or heal.
For a 5th slot, it depends on what the other 4 classes are made up of.
Oh also I missed your question - on heal & deal damage - I’m a priest3/monk and I have no issues with that with my dungeon parties.
It actually gets more serious when someone in the party quits.
The longer you kill the mobs, the more they can hurt you (your party), so when my buffs and heals are on cooldown I go punching them.
Plus I use Palm Strike and Hand Knife for crowd control so they slow down harassing my party.
So far my performance have been welcomed being dual duty. It’s actually pretty sad that I had to do dual duty more than I expected - I do want to be a quiet buff-heal bot sometimes.
I don’t think I could ever live without 32 heal tiles anymore. I feel happy whenever I see many heal tiles on the ground, especially when they’re aligned beautifully like a glowing bed sheet of happiness.
Alright, I’ll pick DPS classes after Cleric 3. Thanks! :> I was thinking about Sadhu but since I’d be moving a lot I dropped the idea. If only Paladin were viable with an int build…
Acolyte:
Noted. I’m happy being a healer, but I also wanna kick azz.
It’s tough. Clerics aren’t made for DPS, they can do some but really limited compared other classes
(e.g. Owl’s horrible cooldown, Monk’s decent DPS but only good at higher ranks, Druid’s nice DPS but limited, Chaplain’s Aspergillum that some said scales off)
But if you want to do a bit of both, hey, cleric’s the only place you can do it.
Just be prepared to have to sacrifice one of the other.
Paladin is still not too bad at my level though. Need to go higher up then know how it turns out. Running Paladin1 with int:con build (no strength). Sure it doesn’t match up to the other pure dps damage and classes. But I’m happy that it helps quite a bit in leveling and questing :3
Finally, I’ve decided on my build for idOBT. Thanks Nekorin and Acolyte. Here’s the build: http://www.tosbase.com/tools/skill-simulator/build/ojao0cohp9/
Yeah, I NEED 16 heal tiles ASAP so I pick all 3 circles at once early.
Ohh have fun there!
My sister is waiting for idOBT also
She’s like ‘OBT coming never’
As someone that is playing both a Sadhu and a Paladin, I’m pleased to tell you: It is! Cleric 3 > Paladin 3 > Plague Doctor is a perfectly viable INT build that will have very strong supportive capabilities.
Restoration multiplies the effectiveness of all healing sources by an amount (the specific number is unknown, but I think it’s 1.5x), making your heal tiles even more effective. Additionally, Smite has a very high base damage, so you don’t even really need STR.
And Cleric 3 > Sadhu is also a very viable build, although I will warn you that Sadhu is very buggy, hard to play, and ping sensitive at the moment. You can either go Cleric 3 > Sadhu 2 > Druid 2 or Cleric 3 > Sadhu 3 > PD/Kabbal/Druid (as some new info has come out regarding Transmit Prana) if you’re interested in going that route.
