does it work? always wanted a 2h spear char but not wanting to go hoplite or cataphra
Wild Nature along with the buffs are great. I never tried barb skills with a spear but if they work, then this build can be good. The barb skills are slash so they still benefit from cleave along with 1 of the dragoon skills. Won’t be as good as hop3 but fck it, niche builds ftw.
it’s pretty much a support because it gives other melee class, especially slash type ones, a huge damage boost. The combo is Gaebolg > serpentine > warcry > Cleave (to increase duration of gae bolg and serpentine attribute debuff). The problem is that this build has 2 parts of damage, first part is using skills but mostly Barbarian skills because Dragoon skill is very bad for DPS, either it has charge time or long animation. The second part is AA with frenzy attack speed. Now the problem is that you are using a 2 hand spear which is a pierce weapon while cleave is a slash debuff. The other problem is that the build relies on Barb skills for DPS instead of being used as a support. This means absolutely need to maintain 5 stacks of Wild Nature to get optimal damage (for the additional dmg for barb skills when 5 stacks), which uses too much effort from the user.
Regarding why gae bolg first, so that you get the weapon immediately as soon as you get near for serpentine.

i have both barb3 drag2 and barb3 hop2 lancer. Both work well
Barb warcry works wonders on drag2 debuffs since it adds +10sec on all debuffs you have done. Frenzy with maintain stacks is good. i have Regard horn pike with 5transc and using frenzy 10 gives stacks really quick and that 15% (with maintain stacks) gives huge boost on my patk. Then add up warcry on that and boom easy 7-8k patk.
Basicly you can keep gae bolg on quite long and serpentine debuff too. Barb3 skills will deal quite a lot damage too with good 2h spear and that 2h spear mastery. Pouncing+Seism is also so underrated. Anyways that combo works really well. With new changed you could take hoplite1-barb3-drag2 for pierce fix and finestra aoe+crit. (get +2 hop spear for extra finestra crit(duration)
Anyways then option 2# which is barb3 lancer. Also works well. Add up hop2 on it and boom. I usually throw spear lunge + crush and warcry. Then do what you want. Dmg will be really good. Another option is to ditch hoplite and get dragon1 for gaebolg double hits. Warcry works wonders with that too. Pouncing replaces rush and frenzy + warcry boosts dmg quite alot. Not to mention there is some synergy with frenzy attack speed buff and lancers Basic attack knockbacks.
Only problem with lancer is that you cant dash = no wild nature from barb. Also cant use seism or cleave. Maybe they will add dashing ability to lancer at some point.
Out of those two options id recommend you rather do that hop1-barb3-dragon2. Good synergy on it and works well. Lancer loses half of the stuff on barb3 and now they implemented more synergy on cata3 and lancer. Might be worth it more.
ps. forgot to mention. Warcry seems to work on all party debuffs made By swordies. So it helps every swordy on party. Just look out for debuffs on bosses. Problem is… like 80% of doppels are barb3 anyways so there is a lot warcry on party anyways so they could just increase duration on ur gaebold and serpentine etc (most doppels are just noobs and dont know this or they focus on their own stuff instead of party gameplay)
So keeping that in mind. You could just go hop1-3 and cata3 goon or what ever you want.
