Banning bots isn't the solution

The game is F2P, if you ban a bot, other 30 accounts are created

The “Ban list” is useless, IMC need to create some system to prevent bots software

Its f ucking obvious, I know, but Im tired of see those Ban Lists and no system to prevent bots

Bot banning in mmo’s are made with the intention of slowing down the process, not stopping it. Not having it would encourage those wankers to double their efforts.

What do you propose. Bot Companies are working to make bot softwares on mmorpg too. It’s like a fight with no end unless drastic method are taken that will also affect real players. And those method gonna cost a ton of money btw.

After 5-10 reports a captcha appears to the player, if he doesnt write the code in 1 minute he will not gain any exp, drops and silver, when he write it everything will turn back to normal

This system is turned off automatic in Guild War, Dungeon, Missions or any kind of duel

One way would be to provide competition.

IMC should sell TP to players then allow them to buy/sell to others in-game for silver. The gold sellers would see a drastic decrease in customers through convenience alone.

*Someone would have to buy the TP
*F2P can buy TP with silver in-game from players that are willing to use real money
*F2P wouldn’t be equivalent to cancer
*IMC makes money to improve the game faster
*everyone wins, except the botters

A few games have tried this and it worked, while other games that simply try to ban them-those bots remain until the game dies.

Just a suggestion, they can take it or leave it

Not exactly everyone wins.
With a system when everything in cash shop is tradeable conversion rate from non-payer to payer will be lower than system that allows to trade only bare necessities (like we have now).

Edit: current token halving thingy already makes token more affordable, we now only need to wait until tokens start to sell for their real value (99 TP token should be about 700k-1mil). That will make it competitive with RMTers unless those dont lower their price.

I mean that concept combined with B2P has made GW2 pretty RMT unfriendly and it works well for them. I actually like this idea. Simple, not overly complicated and would allow players to farm silver to get TP which would strengthen the quality of the F2P/B2P idea while generating a constant influx of cash to IMC from players selling TP for silver.

Once RMT is breathing their last breath, we lift all of these obscene restrictions and enjoy a quality video game rather than what we have here which is everything but.

We must kill them at the source. We must…kill them

Silver Competition is good but still it doesn’t fix much of the problem, the main way to trade in this game is silver. TP is convenience and isn’t really giving that big boost you’d think off.

Capcha could “delay” and I say delay only the bot problem but it need to be coded through the engine of TOS otherwise bot will bypass the whole process. IMC can’t really put this thing into place. Plus it’s really a drawback with the gameplay.

I’m not sure what kind of power IMC has. But there isn’t much solution to this I don’t remind myself that even a single mmo managed to prevent botting. Especially through licensing.

Korea and Japan can ban through SID. which is a drastic move
The only drastic move I can guess of is leaving the whole computer control to a new computer platform that doesn’t allow any other software or memory to be used other than the game itself. And perform memory scans.
Would cost too much money and is too drastic.

IMC are developers of ToS. They are not under any license restrictions.

In theory they can setup phone verification system (you require to verify your cellular number in order to play) and/or ban offenders by HWID along with that phone number.

Probably one of the best solution so far. There is still some leak like making a phone number through skype but there is a good delay I believe.

I think that Skype can only send SMS, not receive SMS. But I’m sure with a little googling you can find a workaround for this where you can receive SMS through fake phone numbers of the sort.

Yeah I just checked it out and there are disposable number websites. Although, if you require verification after being reported as a bot say 5? 10 times? It might become way too tedious and time consuming for a bot to continuously update to new disposable numbers, grab the SMS info and enter it and what not. It may be able to be automated but who knows how efficient that could really be.

Even so, it doesn’t look like there’s an endless list of numbers here either and, when a bot is banned, you would ban the number that they used along with them so they can not reuse numbers.

It might, over time, force them off of the game with no way to return.

This is why your solution wont work:

Any captcha can be solved for as little as $5 per 10000 captcha requests.

BOTS> BTOS> TOSB[ Tree of Saviour Beta]
obvious is obvious. Nowadays bots are always overrunning the newer games to earn real money and then ± die away later on when the hype is over and the population of the game partially migrated to another newer MMORPG.

Yes, bots are the 2nd most annoying thing in every game (the most annoying thing are griefplayers[scammers, killstealers and other non-human{in the sense of enlightenment} trash of the species homo sapiens sapiens]), but sadly players never have any power to eradicate them from the games. Best would be if we could just vote them to become killable by all players , resulting in a loss of all equipment and silver in their posession.
This would stop bots and griefplayers alike, however it would still be abuseable by trash because sadly we can’t block human trash from entering MMORPGs, so there is no way to do anything against them on our own.

But then again, why do you even complain? There isn’t even one country in the world with a good and fair government, politicians are being corrupt and destroy our lives, countries and even our minds. Go out and fix your 씨티 governments first before complaining about people who live the same way as those greedy politicians and other criminals by profiting from the peoples passiveness and stupidity [i.e. not being able to make reasonable choices for their own good and giving up their freedom, right into the hands of these felons] inside a game.
This is not to whiteknight IMC but to make people realize that humanity is already so rotten everywhere that you can’t expect anything else even inside a game [gㅁㅁㅁㅁㅁn virtual societies <_<].

If no one complaint thing will go out of control though, we can’t just live life and say that everything is ok if we want something to change.

If you don’t feel well in your job and you don’t do anything because everyone hate complainer well you’ll have a sad life for a very long time.

Nothing is completely Black nothing is completely White. But we must set something reasonable and this is why as a society we need to talk.

as of the current situation.

Roaming GM’s ingame could solve the problem at 85% max.

  1. saw a bot, right click > report bot
  2. (report then goes to ONLINE GM INGAME)
  3. GM are able to warp/teleport to the reported player
  4. GM conducts necessary procedure to determine if its a bot or not.

oh wait. there ain’t one… anyone saw a GM ingame already?

R.I.P

I want to add to the things that is not also a solution.

NOT BANNING BOTS!

/20micdrops

I know a certain publisher in my country that uses self-developed anti-hack solution that is a ring 0 rootkit (you basically allow them to fully control your PC) that remaps many windows API calls so button press emulations wont work (at all). It worked for their games - no bots. The only way to uninstall it tho is to make a new clean installation of OS.

But if such or similar solution to be introduced in international releases - there would be tons of complaints about privacy and security.

I’ve always wondered about the possibility of moving bots into a “botting” channel. Where they can all have the freedom to spam and never move back to the world. IMC can gather enough metrics on the way these botters think to further improve their engine that can detect bots not only by text, but by activity.
