Attribute Adjustments

Just a few thoughts about Attributes, based on what is currently in the game.

Change “Attributes” to a different naming scheme.
This one is pretty simple. Calling them “Attributes” does not properly convey what they are or what they do. In most RPGs/MMOs, Attributes are Stat Points (STR, DEX, etc). From beta alone I had a lot of confusing conversations with friends and strangers trying to clarify that I meant Attributes and not Stat Points. My suggestion would be to call them Masteries. This is a more familiar term for many, the name alone conveys exactly what Attributes currently do. Through Mastery you learn how to make your skills do more damage, have extra effects, be capable of using a new weapon, etc. It also thoroughly separates itself from Stat Points. Many other naming conventions work, too.

Allow players to adjust Attribute Level as well as turn them on and off.
Currently, some Attributes are able to be toggled. This is great! I’d love to take this a step further though. To begin with, all Attributes should have the option to toggle. Further, all with more than one level should have the option to change the level.

The Attribute “Gungo Ho: Enhance” tackles both of the problems I have with the way things are currently. First, it can’t be toggled off. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to which Attributes can and cannot be toggled. Something that gives an ability bonus stats with no downside can be turned off, but something that gives a detrimental effect alongside it’s beneficial effect is forced on? Strange. Secondly, even if you can toggle it, I’d rather have the option to change what level of the Attribute I have active. Assume I have it maxed out, it would increase my Attack by 50 but decrease my Defense by 50. It would be nice if I could change the active level to say, 25, so I can still get 25 Attack but I only lose 25 Defense. There are plenty of other skills with similar effects, like scaling knockback – you might want to knockback further or nearer depending on the situation.

More Attributes!
The game is still in early stages, so I’m sure there will be more later, but I’d still like to urge more special Attributes! Some classes have a slew of great attributes that completely change how skills work, while others just have +Damage.

Now, why on earth would you toggle damage off?

Testing purposes, mostly. There are already abilities that let you do this, some arbitrarily don’t let you. For example, you can turn off Double Slash’s Crit Rate Attribute, which does nothing but +50% Crit Rate.

In my experience i can say that STR and INT are pretty mandatory if you want to progress at good pace.

I tried go full support, since in many games i play healer or tanker, but was almost impossible. For support i mean pure +SPR healer or pure +CON tanker, after level 15-16, the bosses don’t kill me, they are still pretty easy however i don’t do damage to them either, took me 45 minutes to kill the last 22 boss cause lacks of dps on my tanker and people wont party.

The cause is the quest system that force you to progress in one way and the lacks of party, atm only the pure DPS builds really advance, tried my friend level 95 warrior pure STR/DEX as is pretty strong, no need to party, he kill everything solo.

Devs should focus to balance the stats for pure roles too. In a game called DOMO, if you go pure tanker +CON you get a bit of passive STR too, so while you do obviously less damage compared to full dps classes you aren’t completely gimped and you are able to advance at a decent pace.

Another solution is to remove quest and make party with people around that do the same quest as you, but atm a raid party feature isn’t present, i know that removign the quest and remove the invisible walls from the instanced maps is not fleasible so late in development sicne game go in release next month in korea, but it will be appreciated if they fix the stats and let people automatically party in the same zone (like GW2 dynamic events or FFXIV feats).

If they fix these 2 parts i think ToS can be a very good game.

i think you didn’t read the thread. Attribute are not Stat Points. You make a good example of my reasoning for wanting to change the name of them, though.

Fair enough, for testing purposes at least.
