Attack Animations Satisfactory?

How did everyone feel about the attack animations? I played an archer and it felt like attack animations for the different skills would add some great polish to the feel of combat. I actually don’t remember that there were any attack animation except multishot… disclaimer: I only used the multishot, swiftstep, oblique shot, double arrow skills as archer c3.

Were you satisfied with the skill attack animations for the class you played?

I am open for more variety in sword swing animation, and having different swings for different types of melee weaponry, but I am currently satisfied with the melee attack animation.

Cryomancer and Sorcerer both have lots of cool spell animations, spinning the staff around and stuff. I liked them!

Personally the only animation I think that feels a bit clunky is the Cleric’s heal, but that’s personal opinion.

I think they did a great job with them. There is enough punch and impact that it feels right.

Pretty sure you didn’t have much variety besides Multi Shot because that’s the only thing with charge from your skill list :hushed: everything else could have been spammed (besides the nerfed twin arrow although I’m fairly sure it’s the same as the auto attack animation)

Yeah, I wish it didn’t have the same animation as the auto-attack, but if you think about it… with the high number of classes and skills in the game… maybe it’s too much to make an animation for each skill?

Some attack animations still need polish, I’ve sent my feedback to them dealing with some parts of animation.

That’s not an excuse to make something to hold back wowing your consumer, and make them feel that good rush. It doesn’t always have to be super flashy, but fluid and worthwhile for sure.

Each weapon should have 3-4 basic attack animations. (each class having them would be too much, and most of the time you don’t stay certain classes for too long). If they did change attack animations for a class, it should be for the higher rank 7s and above, to make them that much more unique. Stab/Hit/Slash etc should have different attack sounds for them, to also help differentiate them. Jump attacks should have a unique animation of it’s own for each weapon type. Right now you attack the same way as if you were on the ground. Kind of cheesy for a 2015 game, and seems incomplete.

I want more variation.

I dunno attack animations seem to mainly exist to add hidden casting time to skills. This was one of my main annoyances with the game: I’d buy skills then find out they took a while to cast when the skill said nothing about the added animation time. Multishot being a good example, it takes longer and longer to cast the more levels of it you get. It makes it really hard to know what you’re buying when the skill description keeps this hidden.

I personally like Peltasta’s umbo blow a lot. The attack animation takes a little bit longer to finish. But it feels great when it hits something.

Archer class can walk and attack at the same time <- I’m satisfied just from that one animation.

The animations from now is satisfactory.
I think the additional plus 1 for each class must be OK.

I miss the animations from emotion’s keys

You don’t have to charge it completely, it gets a higher charge limit because you leveled it and can shoot more arrows.

If the charge limit was tiny like at level 1, but you could shoot the same amount of arrows like at level 15, that’d be a little ridiculous.

But you can let go at any point of the charge bar and shoot arrows equivalent to how much you charged.

I know, but it started to feel like I should have stopped leveling it around level 6 or 7 because it was hard to get the time to charge it further before one of the boss mobs hit me. It’s just annoying that the animation becomes long enough to make it really hard to use, higher level skill investments should be rewarded not penalized.

@LadyRava actualy even at high levels its quite useful in PvP, and boss fights, however it might be more difficult to use a full charge one in a boss fight, you’d have to either be in a party or time it after a large attack, where bosses will just sit around for awhile. When you have enough dex (and consequentially high evasion), you can fully charge it uninterrupted in most cases, as mobs and bosses will miss on you.

I haven’t tried pvp in ToS, do you actually have enough time to stand around charging multishot without getting hit? Pvp in the other mmo I played was so chaotic that you could never guarantee going more than a few seconds without being hit if you stopped moving.

I can see your point for boss fights, I soloed all of my fights so I never got the benefit of having a party take the heat off.

@LadyRava usually yes, with enough evasion, and usually people have safety zone scrolls, or a party that has some CC, and you can charge it and wait for people to enter your field of vision before firing right in the beginning so it works out quite well still :sunny:

For boss fights in the future, you can grab safety zone scrolls off a pardoner (assuming someone will ever get that high with the abysmal exp rates, definitely on OBT/live), and use them to tank a couple hits while you charge multi shot.

Actually evaded hit still interrupts your charge  More of a bug though.

The obvious problem here is that its hard to make shooting a arrow more exciting.

[Shoot arrows with your feet][1] … totally not going to have a super crazy long animation time… totally not going to do the same damage as your regular archer shot but it looks cool
