Server and channel differentiation can be seen from the above diagram.
Server - If too many players connected to the server a point of time and exceeded the server’s assigned capacity, the server will break and crash. If not, all channels will experience lags.
Channels - Able to distribute players, have assigned capacity also. If all players gather in one channel it will overflow the channel. The channel will experience lag but not necessary mean that the server can’t handle the capacity.
In conclusion, to not have players experience lag, either have multiple servers with small number of channels or have a high capacity server with a suitable amount of channels to distribute players.

From my experience as gamer that used to try every new mmorpg… 140% was lagging in the beginning. But after a while, when most of players decided fo quit, because game did not met their expectations then everything started to work just fine. There is no point to buy powerful serwer to handle milions of players for closed beta, slowly with care they may add new tunnels and so on, so i assume everything should be just fine after a while or even few days 
Look at the exact time the beta will start, how many people will be awake at 2am to play the beta? If its like the 1st CBT there will probably be some type of delay after 2am before the server is actually open to log into (i think it was a 30-45 minute delay during CBT 1), causing the non-hardcore players and people with work in the morning to miss their chance to play when it first opens.
Ever heard of a thing called timezones?

lol, there is now OVER 120K registered for the CBT, that is just to many (even if w/ Timezone that is still a huge number), Hope the server can take the beating
I think we might not be able to play for a very long time during the first few days because of that, but from another perspective, they seem confident about their servers(going from 10 000 to unlimited keys!) so I don’t know, my experience tells me that we won’t be able to play, but if they trust their servers, why not.

To me its only 50k ppl. 70k are bots or some problem with their counter. I dont belive every second +5ppl are joining in.
If they have stuff setup like most distributed services nowadays, they would just automatically spin up new servers on AWS and those new servers would handle additional channels.
They will want to know what their safe margin is for max channels per server and figure out if they can do any easy optimisation to increase that number, so I expect there to be crashes/lots of lag while that process is on going.
I have the same question… Hopefully it will have multiple ch( +80 for city and +15 for the others), the first week probably it 'll be “unplayable”.

Remember, it’s international. While it’s 10AM at your home, somewhere might be 7PM.
Im gonna laugh when the server crashes for the player overload again right when the the 2nd iCBT starts, just like in the first beta, but this time with 10x the people.
i also wonder if FPS goes KILL when seeing 50 players in 1 screen XD

Usually servers always have issues when they first open; however, it’s at 3 AM EST, so it doesn’t matter too much. The game has 20 channels, so don’t worry about it being too crowded. Generally lag problems resolve after around 6 hours after the servers first open. I imagine they opened the server up to everyone to test if the server can handle the amount of people.
Also take note that even though there are 150k people registered, a lot of registrations are likely done by bot. I personally signed up with 6 other accounts so I could have multiple CBT keys.
