Armor choices for Dragoon (or half-DPS swordsman in general)

I’m following the Sword2-Hop3-Dop1-Dragoon Build. As a half-DPS half-tank swordsman, I always have two sets of armor on me: the Cafrisun Set for dps when soloing, and 3 plates + Vubbe Fighter Gauntlets for tanking when dungeoning (I mean, if I have to tank. If there is another tank in the party, I will switch to the DPS armor.). Since TOS hasn’t got any good armor beyond lv170 (and I just reach lv160 yesterday), I am planning to gather armor for the end game. And this is where I need some helps from the experienced:

1. Regarding to the tanking armour
As far as I know, the best armor for tanking is the Roxona Plate Set. (Or that is the best set I could get at the moment. It would take too long for me to enter some high level dungeons or the Earth Tower.) However, I am not entirely sure if Roxona Plate Gauntlets is better than Vubbe Fighter Gauntlets.

I am planning to go 100 DEX, so the extra accuracy from Roxona Plate Gauntlets doesn’t seem to help. 289 more HP is lovely, but so is 10 STR from Vubbe Fighter Gauntlets. Of course, If I take this set of armor as tanking armor, then Roxona Plate Gauntlets is better for sure. In this case, I could use Vubbe Fighter Gauntlets as a DPS armor. This, however, generates my next question:

2. Regarding the DPS armor
The reason I chose the Cafrisun Set as my DPS armor is simply because it got the 12 property damages when wearing the full set. Nevertheless, I got the feeling that the extra 12 damages doesn’t seem to help both at my level and the end game. It can also be easily replaced by enchanted hats. Thus I thought it’s about time for me to get another DPS armor.

As I searching through TOS Fan Base, however, I couldn’t really find a good replacement. Thus,

a. if that is really the case, then I will have no choice but to stay with the Cafrisun Set. (or maybe even giving up the idea of the so-called DPS armor, and let it be replaced by enchanted hats?) In this case, should I keep Vubbe Fighter Gauntlets and not getting the Roxona Plate Gauntlets? or maybe I could just sell it for silver to shorten the road to the full Roxona Plate Set?

b. if that is not the case, i.e., there is a better DPS armor which works well with Vubbe Fighter Gauntlets and I am dumb enough to overlooked it, then please shed some lights on me!

So that’s it. Hope I did explain myself well (or too detailed maybe lol). I am eager to see the advices and discussion from you guys. Many thanks beforehand

Something that is completely off-topic:

As a Sword2-Hop3, I can tell you that from my own experience, Sword1-Pelt1-Hop3 will make the life of this future Dragoon much easier. (I haven’t reach the end game…so I mean, at least the early life of Dragoon) Not only you will be more popular than Sword2-Hop3 in party, but the ability to gather mobs also synergies well with Stabbing, which in some sense provides AOE attacks that Hoplite is lacking.

Nevertheless, I have already foreseen this when I chose Sword2. The only reason I went astray is simply because I don’t like the current meta for swordsman, i.e., whatever route you choose, just start with Sword1-Pelt1. I am the kind of person who doesn’t feel good when my choices are limited. (Philosophically speaking though, “choosing Sword2 because I don’t want to be limited to Sword1-Pelt1” might also be considered as another limitation. However, when in the case of doing this or that both seems questionable, I usually let loose of my emotion and follow my instinct.)

So if for any reason the reader of this post is seeking the so-called best Dragoon build, then from my personal experience (to emphasize again), I honestly recommend you to start with Sword1-Pelt1.

pvp str built - plate set/mastery
pvp dex built - leather set/mastery
pve - plate
btw, 10 str = 10 raw damage, im not sure i’d get vubbe fighter gloves JUST for that, accuracy is important.
Btw, without a peltasta circle you aren’t even a quarter tank. (i don’t say you should’ve picked peltasta, its just that you aren’t a tank without a peltasta or rodelero build, i myself didn’t go peltasta because i honestly could care less if the 5k hp archer in my party dies.)

Thanks for the advice! I shall sell Vubbe Fighter Gauntlets and starting to gather Roxona Plate Set.

What is your opinion on the DPS armor though? Should I just throw the Cafrisun Set into the collection, or it is actually useful when questing, leveling, farming etc?

And yes, I do aware of the fact that if the “tank” in the party is without a peltasta circle, then the DPSs cannot output their damage safely whatsoever. However, at least in the dungeon, there has to be someone who go to the front line, bait out the first attack from mobs and keep as many attention of the mobs as possible. Except in some rare case (like a true tank or a full CON Cryo is in the party), an 50 CON Hop like me become the best candidate to fulfill the job naturally. And that is pretty much what I meant by “tanking”.

don’t spend on it, get knight armor and leggings, later on replace them with Grynas.

A Full Grynas plate set or
3 Grynas + Roxona Plate Gauntlets would be the best plate set prior to virtov
If you’re having a hard time with Grynas, Superior Royal Guard will do

Roxona Plate armor/pants are okay but not worth.

Don’t sell your vubbe glove, it has many uses including having an op glove if you plan on making a new character.

I have two vubbes myself, one that my fencer still uses at 280 and another that I pass around

what he said
grynas or royal guard are the best.
