Are parties a big thing in this game?

Hey, I was just wondering about this…
Will parties be a common thing? Maybe only in the end game?
Can someone shed some light on this?

if you watch any stream right now, you’ll notice the massive number of parties, mostly people grinding. also bosses are pretty tough to fight alone

Considering the amount of specialization of some classes, and if the game is tough, you’ll need a party to level up, a party to boss fight, a party to quest, etc.

Seems like parties and making friends is actually a thing in this game. It doesn’t seem to be a queue thing either, so hopefully you’ll actually get to know your comrades rather than logging in -> killing boss -> logging out.

Also the variety of classes means that each person will probably be assigned different jobs/roles within a party, and parties may in fact start specialising recruitment looking for specific classes pertaining to whether they need a tank, physical damage, magical damage, range damage or supportive abilities.

Class combinations in parties are a very important thing in this game.
Better get socializing!

if there isn’t a que or an area listing for people looking to party, then that may make a party dependant game a bit harder for some people. I idealy hope that people around you lvling will be nice enough to add you but in my experience that doesnt happen to often.

Hopefully it’ll pick up the one trait of RO that I’ve never seen anywhere else…

People actually sitting around and talking inside/outside town areas, I made so many friends in RO because of that. Most MMOs these days people are too busy queuing for something or trying to be competitive to bother.

they are actually focussing currently on a better party system, when I remember right in the CBT3

While the answer is yes I think it’s still lacking as the big number of parties is mainly a consequences of the character system rather than the party mechanics.

In general, most hack and slash games allow you to experience their content entirely on your own. There are indeed a lot of valid reasons to that that but it is also the case partying can be made a lot more enticing.

For instance, the party system of the Diablo series is a lot more accessible and inviting than in RO1. Obviously, Diablo games aren’t MMOs so mostly the difference is due the main game design, you simply either choose to open a party or a solo game. You notice that difference in Path of Exile. That is a Diablo clone but an MMO with a huge number of features but partying isn’t really inviting for a long period of your average gameplay.

So far, ToS adopted the interface and mechanics of the party system to large degree from RO1, thus inheriting its problems. However, since CBT3 is supposed to feature a redesign, I wait with my feedback and suggestions.

To add on to everyone else, don’t really bother in actual min/maxing for each party. there’s too many specializations.

In a nutshell, every class can dps. But another stereotyping fact here is that:

Archers are tactical characters
Swordsman are tank characters
Clerics have to heal whether they want to or not
Wizards generally have support skills.

Picking pure dps in a class seems to be a rather bad decision since u can’t solo well and support skills seem to give far better efficiency with another guy. Also the fact that there’s stamina in this game.

Of course, I’m not saying go with a party of squire/alch/pardoner. Those are all merchanting classes. At least have a combat class, even though the merchant classes would have some combat skills on their own.
